gooseberry fool, just thought of that. My collection is about 50% American, 47% PAL and 3% Japanese.

You can always keep your original DS. I know I will.

There is no reason to get crazy. DS games have no region coding, there is noway to retroactively lock them, and even the Nintendo response in the OP says that the DS games are region-free. Imported DSi enhanced games, if you have any (you probably won't), won't work on a 3DS, but any normal DS game will.

Basically you can't sell your DS or DSi then...but i wanted to sell it to put cash towards 3DS! The thought of having to wait for European 3DS releases isn't great either...as it's always been America getting the games at least 1-2 months in advance..sometimes more... :fp:

Gonna miss getting releases earlier and often cheaper! :(

There is no region encoding on the cartridges, so they wouldn't be affected by that of the console.

Well, I was importing my 3DS from Japan anyway so I wouldn't miss out on games. I guess this justifies it.

So if I had a 3DS and I went to America, I can't buy a game over there and expect to play it on my 3DS.

That's rediculous when you think it's a portable console, what happens when I see that game I want on my 3DS?
I can't bloody play it.

All in all, when you look at it and weigh things up, it really doesn't matter.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

But you'll be missing out on games in your own language then, though :shifty:

Weigh what up? That implies that there's some apparent benefit to the consumer to offset the fact that this sucks, when there clearly isn't.

And I'm out. Be wonderful to see what flash cart manufacturers will come up with.

Not bothered to be honest. I don't really buy many DS games as it is. :p

Are you trying to tell me you've never played Layton or Phoenix Wright, despite owning a DS?

I've played both, but would it bother me if I just had to translate them. Infact, I think it'd be fun.

Another reason for me to wait until 3DSlite. Not that Nintendo would back-down on region-locking, but to see which region gets the best library.

Probably in single figures, but dammit, I like the option.
