You played the vastly inferior version.

I can understand why Nintendo has region-locked the 3DS, but I'm also massively disappointed.

Imagine if they'd done it for the DS or the GBA. No Ouendan. No Wario Ware Twisted. No Rhythm Tengoku. No Bit Generations. No Atlus imports. Doesn't bear thinking about.

EDIT: Elite Beat Agents isn't vastly inferior to Ouendan. It's still a great game, just not quite as good (though it made some notable improvements that Ouendan 2 also used).

You played the vastly inferior version.

Annoying Japanese music vs songs I actually know.

I know which version I'd prefer.

If the Japanese music wasn't so crazy catchy, I might agree. And when you're talking about a game that has "Sk8r Boi" in its tracklist, I'd be more careful about applying words like "annoying".

Hey, hey, HEY.

I hate Japan more than anyone, and I bloody loved Ouendan. The songs are cringeworthy when you listen to them by themselves but they're so damn good in the game. Most of EBAs songs didn't work on the same level at all.

But then again, you're quite the Material Girl, Maf.

You queer.

I don't, not really. I can't see any material harm it's done to the GBA, the DS, or the PS3. A casual audience has no idea how to go about importing a game, and wouldn't understand why they'd want to. Gamers appreciate having the option, even if they don't exercise it very often.

The thing is, internal region locking of software downloads wouldn't bother me so much. But region locking the carts of the very console you'd want to take on holiday with you was and remains utterly stupid, and I'd rather believe that this is a mis-communication than an actual choice someone made.

Barney. Definately Barney. At least Gary Glitter doesn't expect kids to be happy after he molests them.

DS games have no region coding, there is noway to retroactively lock them, and even the Nintendo response in the OP says that the DS games are region-free. Imported DSi enhanced games, if you have any (you probably won't), won't work on a 3DS, but any normal DS game will.

Oh, well that's good news at least. I have as many PAL DS games as I do Japanese ones. :shifty:

Calling the whole of Hollywood a badly managed company is a bit much.

I've never seen even a single bit of compelling evidence to suggest that importing was a big enough issue to have even the slightest impact on regional sales.

QFT

NOE have released a few games here that the US hasn't got, such as Disaster: Day of Crisis, Another Code R, Last Window etc... The worst thing is most companies simply go Japan > US, then maybe > Europe, but Nintendo have a habit of going Japan > Europe which means that either region of the 3DS is going to miss out

The thing is this won't impact on sales at all. All the titles you and Suzz have quoted are the very obscure, niche games that as gamers we get a kick out of owning as it makes us feel special. I've been there; I imported a Wavebird long before the UK got them, got Jump Ultimate Stars on the DS and got the japanese PSO on the Dreamcast.

NOE have held back certain games to fill in their release voids. I fully expect Excitebots, Trauma Team, Xenoblade and The Last Story to be out on the Wii before the end of 2012 in an effort to provide us with something.
