I heard that FOX is asking the main voice actors to take a 45% pay cut as they can't afford to pay them anymore and they're actually loosing money. Apparently the voice actors have said they would take a 30% cut in exchange for some of the merchandise sales.

Until this dispute, the actors were paid around $400,000 per actor per episode. Compare this to the industry standard of paying actors $1m per actor per episode. They'll hardly be destitute if they take the pay cut, but I'm sure Fox should be able to tighten its belt elsewhere before it cuts the Simpsons' actors' pay.
