You have not watched the Simpsons in the last 3 years have you? They've been constantly getting better.

I am also of this opinion.

Caliban wrote:"Crook!"

"Thief!"

"STEALINGMONEYFROMTHECHURCHCOLLECTIONPLATE!"

Read that last night and didn't get it.

I get it now though.

Really? I watched one a few months ago and I found it kind of funny although it was nothing compared to the heights of before.

They'll never reach those heights again (for various reasons). But even the crappiest episode usually has a gem or two that wouldn't have been out of place in the classics. A great example was an episode on Sky One a night ago or so called Bart Star. The ep is mostly gash but with two stand out moments:

Bart: May I be excused, mom?
Homer: Oh, so now you're quitting dinner, too.
Marge: Homer, please.
Homer: I didn't raise him to be a quitter. It must have been you. You quit every job you've ever had. Cop, pretzel vendor, church counsellor, professional gambler.
Marge: He's doing what he thinks is best.
Homer: Well, if quitting is the best, maybe I should just quit my job!
[Homer walks over to the phone and dials Mr. Burns' number.]
Mr Burns: Ahoy hoy?
Homer: Mr Burns? This is Homer J Simpson, the father of the big quitter! Well, I just wanted to tell you I'm a big quitter, too! And I quit!
[Homer winks twice.]
Marge: Homer, Mr Burns can't see you winking.
Homer: So--
[screams, hangs up phone.]

The other being Homer "cutting" people while the credits roll...

Scully, you're cut. Brooks, Groening, Simon, you're all cut. Castellaneta,
gone. Kavner, cut. Cartwright, cut. Smith, sorry, cut. Azaria, Shearer,
you're cut. Firestone, you're cut. So is Judge. Namath, you stay. All of
those people are cut. Johnson, Wolfe and Silverman are all cut. Goldfire,
O'Brien gone. Cut, Elliot, I don't know what you're doing here because
you're all cut. Pietela, Kuwahaha. Theres so many cuts here, look, I'll
just post them up and you see where your name is. Look how many cuts there
are there. Woah boy! You're cut. All of you! You're cut. I cut you!
[Gracie Films logo, "shhhhh"]
You're cut too, shusshy!

...

The wink and the way Dan Castellaneta pronounces Kuwahara (Kuwahaha?) ... strawberry floatin' lol.

But yeah, not as funny as they used to be and you do have to sit through quite a bit of garbage to find the funny and I can understand not everyone's going to be willing to do that.

Simpsons went downhill when they started plugging celebrities and having them guest star by shoehorning. Ie. The Ricky Gervais episode.

I've not watched it recently but have caught a few of the new episodes, they've all been awful and forgetful.

One of the most celeb shoehorning episodes was Krusty Gets Kancelled and that was in the era of the classics. Celebrity cameos/starring roles in a gooseberry fool episode just highlights how bad a bad episode really is because of how good celeb episodes were in the past (Lisa's Substitute, Homer at the Bat, O Brother, Where Art Thou? etc).

That's a pretty old episode isn't it? And a decentish one too. :shifty:

It's from season 9?!

Wow.

Er, yeah, some quality eps in season 9 so I guess it could be seen as from the classic era. But for me, on the whole, it's a pretty crap ep saved by a few funny moments.

gooseberry fool. Just had a look at season 10 on wikipedia. Now that was a gooseberry fool season (bar a few eps: When You Dish Upon a Star and D'oh-in in the Wind)... will have to go through it and see if I can find any funny moments amongst the dross.

Aye, think it was towards the end of "Classic" Simpsons. I still enjoyed most episodes up until whenever it was Futurama started. After that the quality of The Simpsons seemed to decline drastically. In an ideal world they would have cancelled The Simpsons and stuck with Futurama.

Though the quality has improved quite a bit since recently (whenever it was when they changed the opening credit scenes) but will unlikely ever reach the same quality levels as the Classic era.

Still, even the worst episodes have at least one decent funny moment. I think.

Even the godawful China episode had the inspired Homer as Buddha gag. The Italy episode was without such redemption.

Johnny Cash was the best guest star. Heh, I AM a coyote

Hello Bart, I'm riding the school bus today because mother hid my car keys for talking to a woman on the phone. She was right to do it.

Now I've gotten word that a child is using his imagination and I've come to put a stop to it.

Have some of the titles from the Season currently airing on Sky1 been used before? They sound awfully familiar.

Last new one I watched was the Glee-style one, absolutely awful!
