I've not seen that NBA case before - creative!

Looks in excellent condition as well. I'm sure most of the games I got in 1996 and 97 had already been touched up by 5000 sweaty hands.

Look back in hindsight and I sometimes think to myself that while okay the games hadn't yet been scratched to buggery (no one can convince me otherwise that those PlayStation's in 1995-1998 weren't putting hairline scratches on the discs), they could hardly be described as NEW either.

I was fairly late getting both the PS1 and Gamecube so I had a few launch games that were Platinum and Players Choice versions.

Never bothered me at all.

Yeah, that one definitely benefited from being a release-day purchase. Dread to think what it would have looked like after being kicked around a shop shelf for a few weeks.

Never bothered me buying the ps1 platinum versions since I remember they always were £19.99 when Woolworths were still a shop saving up some pocket money to buy mgs1

The budget label packaging never really bothered me, what did bother me however was that the price was only often reduced by a small amount (the PS platinum range was ok at £20, but the N64 equivelent would have the games still priced at £30).

On a separate note, i do remember seeing that NBA case in some of the shops at the time.

Did you ever get a discount on N64 or Gamecube for purchasing 2 or more Player's Choice? With Platinum it was regularly 2 for £30 or 3 for £40. Third-party labels then took it all the way down to £8-£10 until Sony eventually put the kibosh on that fun ('guys, you're devaluing the PlayStation market').

I've never minded having budget re release stuff but it does lower what I'm willing to pay for it..... When I think what I'll pay for a game I do all kind of mental maths is there a box, a manual, what condition is it in, and is it a release... it's not a deal breaker but does alter what I'll pay.

It never bothered me. All re-releases should look like this though:

Ah, I’ve been accused in the past (not here, and not really seriously) of googling photos and pretending they’re from my collection, so I tend to stick a little proof in these days!

Yes, but it’s supposed to, isn’t it? Tesco value games, basically. The discs bothered me more than the boxes for PS1 platinum stuff.

Also +1 for They Sold a Million, we had the one with Daley Thomson's Decathlon

I never cared about budget branding. I actually think the PS1/2 Platinum boxes look incredible.

I can’t remember how often this was the case, or if they did this in later years on other formats, but one of the benefits of buying Platinum were the minor improvements that were added over the original print run. Both V-Rally and TOCA had Dual Shock support added, and V-Rally was also given an extra car. Resident Evil Director’s Cut also got the Dual Shock treatment but they never released it over here for some reason.
