A fairly big update to the game dropped today.
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2024/ ... atch-notes-Mirror tracks have been added. The usual tracks are flipped horizontally, and tracks where the gimmicks are rearranged will appear. Five Mirror Knight League tracks will be added first, followed by the Mirror Queen and Mirror King League tracks.
-Added the Steer Assist feature. This function avoids barriers and rough patches while driving, and prevents falling off the course while jumping.
-Practice/Time Trial Mode has been expanded. In addition to the previous 15 courses, Classic tracks and Mirror tracks are now unlocked for practice.
-Added Classic Mini Prix to special events. It's a three-race series with Classic rules and courses. Silence, White Land 2 and Fire Field, the final tracks in the grand prix, will now appear.
-Added Challenge Highlights. Basically it helps track progress of unlocks, including new limited time unlocks.
-New cosmetic unlocks including spin effects.
-Other balance/technical changes you can read in the link.
I've been enjoying the new mirror tracks. They play very differently to the originals because of the different layout of boosts and hazards, including some new ones. Classic Mini Prix is neat even if I don't think Classic Mode itself is great. It's nice to have the final GP tracks added to it but it's a bit random that they can appear at any time including being the first track in a prix. Conversely, a track like Mute City can also be the last track in the prix, which is a bit of an anti-climax.
The machines have received buffs and nerfs and I'm not sure how I feel about the changes yet. All the machines take less damage from players and barriers, which I think is a good change because when you have full lobbies a crowd of players did a silly amount of damage to you before. The changes to Falcon seem to have made them one of the better machines now, when before they were considered the worst. The nerfs to Golden Fox are welcome because it was a bit too good.
Some powerful skyway shortcuts were patched out, which I think is a shame because for the most part I think they made the game a bit more balanced. But I guess it sucked for more casual players who didn't know about them.
