I'm on the House Always Wins V,
where Mr House has asked me to take out the Brotherhood of Steel.

Trouble is, my science skill is poor, only about 35, and it needs to be 100 to hack the terminal to get the self destruct code. I have tried shooting the place up, but I invariably get slaughtered. I'm about level 34. I may have the wrong weapons for fighting people in power armour - any recommendations?

As an alternative, I could destroy Mr House for Yes Man, but if I do that the NCR will be all over me (I've been warned not to help Yes man any more), and I'm idolised by them so would rather not.

Suggestions?

I think in that bit you can pickpocket 3 people to get the complete destruct code and then activate it from there. I did that as my hack skill wasnt high enough and then just snuck out of the complex with a stealth boy, didnt get detected at all 8-)

Just to clarify, I'm already 'in' with the Brotherhood, I can come and go freely. I just need to steal their keycards to activate the self-destruct. I may need to practice pick-pocketing. :fp:

I may recruit Veronica, though, if she's good. Lily pisses me off, she's always in the way in rooms and corridors...

Edit: cheers Ad7... didn't think of using a stealth boy. Never really used them - are they time limited?

It's all about Boone (no homo).

Actually strawberry float that, I am a bit gay for him.

I felt like a complete banana split for doing that mission. Even though they are twats, I still like the brotherhood, mainly because of DAT ARMOUR. Oh speaking of which, if you're not trained to wear power armour, make sure you get a brotherhood person to train you before you wipe them all out.

Yes stealth boys are time limited, but I think i got out without the first one running out. Just remember to be sneaking while you use it.

Just completed the Dead Money Dlc for New Vegas.

My word, the story for it is amazing, the way you uncover information, the three characters, the pieces of information and the voice acting is fantastic. Everything else though is horrible, it's executed so poorly, I don't know how they could have made it better, but the level design is incredibly linear and confusing at times.

When I found out what Dean had done, I so wanted to kill him that prick. I don't know who did the DLC, but the storyline and dialogue is incredible. Absolutely adore the characterisation and dialogue. Uncovering the tragedy and being drip fed information is done really well. That's the best part of it. Sinclair  I felt so bad for you, if only I could have killed Dean for you. Uncovering somebodies drug addiction made the story all the more sadder, and at least there was redemption on her part.

This is the thing about characterisation in New Vegas, you're left with such conflicting feelings. I mean as much as I wanted to kill Dean for his part, I couldn't because of that stupid collar bomb. I read that you can actually kill him, but I didn't manage to uncover the path to that. Felt like a hero for helping christine and the mutant though.

I'll be honest, I started it and then ditched it, going back to an earlier save. Just couldn't get on with it at all, and didn't like the feel of it at all compared with the rest of the game.

I was only just level 20 then, mind, I'm a good chunk better now so maybe it's worth another go (or not, based on what you've said.)

Yeah, this (and what AD7 said). I've reached a point where I'm really treading very delicately as I don't want to destroy the rep I've built up. The story is forcing me into some big decisions. :|

It's an excellent game overall, mind. I'm just visiting every location now as I really don't want it to end. Definitely my favourite franchise of this console generation.

I was level 19 and having to sneak because the enemies would rape me was not that enjoyable.

The level design is lazy, the quests are fetch quests, so many traps to avoid and disarm, the holograms that can't be killed, avoiding getting your collar bomb blown up, the gooseberry fool gamebryo engine....god I could go on. Saving grace is the characters, dialogue, the storyline and finding the tidbits of information on what really happened from different characters perspectives is worth it. I finished it within two days, six or seven hours at the most I think, thank god for that.

One thing I just love about New Vegas is that barely any characters are black and white. Fallout 3 has no ambiguity on anything, it's all spelled out for "hi, I'm a good guy and only do good things, help me out and be a saint" or "hi I'm the bad guy, let's do evil together", all of that gooseberry fool pales in comparison to New Vegas and the fact that you have to dig in the gameworld to gleam valuable bits of info about a character and their past.

Terrible DLC, but it has its saving graces which I'm glad I experienced.

If you're rude to Dean when you first meet him you'll need to kill him in the casino to get his key.

Looking forward to Fallout 4. Hopefully Bethesda have learned something from how Obsidian handled quests and characters in New Vegas.

They're going to try and top Skyrim, this going to be epic. It's going to have lovely scenery, will still be on the god awful gamebryo engine.

You clearly know a lot more about what's going on behind games than I do... genuine question, what's so awful about it? I'm aware of what elements of the game I find frustrating, but I'm a bit too casual to know why :shifty:

Another genuine question, what engine would be better suited and what difference would it make?

I just have my fingers crossed Fallout 4 isn't a MMORPG. Live co-op would be amazing though.

I'd happily wait till the next gen consoles arrive for Fallout 4 so we can have larger environments with more detail packed in. The current one they use just can't handle large enough spaces without being broken up into smaller chunks (see the strip in New Vegas for an extreme example, plus loading to go into a city in skyrim rather than just walking in).

With a new engine you may be able to have spaces more like the original Fallout 3 concept art in both looks and scope.

It would... though I think it'd be very difficult to implement without losing something. I'm picturing Dead Island as a near-equivalent in terms of how it could be implemented and, while I enjoyed aspects of that (I only played it in co-op, from start to finish), it was certainly far from problem-free...

What would also be brilliant is if they include an option to use an external tablet/phone as your pip boy. They should create an app which links to your PSN/Live account and give you the option of removing the in game pip boy. They could package the game with a watch like strap in order to attach your phone to your wrist :D

They could do something like that on the Wii U version.

TBH, using the controller is just much easier, unless they make use of some improved version is Kinect for menus.
