What would also be brilliant is if they include an option to use an external tablet/phone as your pip boy. They should create an app which links to your PSN/Live account and give you the option of removing the in game pip boy. They could package the game with a watch like strap in order to attach your phone to your wrist :D

Bethesda used Fallout 3 to compare the origins of America with its fictional end and Boston would be the logical place to continue this. In fact I'd wager we'll be seeing the entire Commonwealth explored (Boston, Phillidelphia and the surrounding region).

If they combine the scale of Skyrim, the NPCs of F3 and the quests of New Vegas this could be something incredibly special.

Will there be an option to be born and raised in West Philadelphia?

Vault 6 is where I spent most of my days.

The NPCs of fallout 3? Why do you want soulless husks? They had gooseberry fool dialogue and no character.

I wanted to mention all 3 games :(

But yeah, New Vegas with the scale of Skyrim would so just nicely.

PS: The NPCs weren't that bad

First and foremost, the game will take place in Boston, and be kind of a direct sequel to Fallout 3 with a few groups returning.
-From what it sounds like, "The Institute" is pretty much the downtown DC or New Vegas of this game. Boston is going to be unlike anything we've seen in a Fallout game before, with buildings more on par with cyberpunk and retro-futurism.
-Androids play a big part in this game. The railroad from Fallout 3 is a faction. The enemies of the railroad is "the Plantation" -- a group who force Androids to farm so that Humans can get food. The Institute is highly advanced and probably obtained or built their own GECK to start a farm.
-Due to complaints about using Super Mutants and the Brotherhood of Steel in Fallout 3 excessively and going against the lore too much, Bethesda has decided to avoid using these groups. Bethesda wants to make a new "race" (think Ghoul, Super Mutant) which will be central to Boston. Bethesda is currently looking at Lovecraftian fiction since Boston is around "Lovecraft Country".
-Bethesda has no plans to reinvent the leveling up system to make it more like Skyrim and want to make Fallout 4 more distinct from Skyrim since of the complaints that Oblivion and Fallout 3 were too similar. Bethesda is thinking about introducing a system, similar to Skyrim, where your skills can level up if you perform certain tasks.

That makes no sense.

In terms of the two, I much prefer the Fallout levelling system. The further away they take it from Skyrim's the better.

More historical allegory? Sounds legit to me. Cautiously optimistic, but I don't like the idea of taking Fallout further from its roots. Moving away from the old factions and introducing new ones could either be great or disastrous depending on the writing. Man, I really wish Bethesda would hire some better writers.

And yes, the Skyrim levelling system was gooseberry fool. Overpowering the player character is still something Bethesda have yet to get to grips with.

The combat being hard is really not something I'm interested in in Fallout. I just want to explode heads, that's all the satisfaction I need.

Also Fallout 3 > New Vegas in almost every regard.

 This is pretty much why my nephew loves watching me play Fallout 3. It's been a couple years since i played it but I got back into FO3 after the 3 Dogs tease and talking about the game with a mate the other day. Me, Charon, Fawkes and Dogmeat just roaming round like we own the Wasteland.

I didn't really get on with Skyrim - no matter how hard i try i just can't get into the whole Wizards and Dragons setting/theme of the game - but it terms of environment they did a real solid job -graphics wise it was pretty good as well. I wonder if they'll bring it out on current gen consoles or say wait until Fall 2014 and bring it out on Next gen. I'm hoping we get more varied environments in FO4, better AI for the NPC's and of course a shitload more 'random' events and encounters.

I believed that too, until I played through Vegas a second time after they'd fixed most of the bugs. Fallout 3 will always be a special game for me but the writing and plot of NV is so far ahead of F3 it's silly.

Fallout publisher Bethesda Softworks has registered a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for "an on-going television program set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world."

Do want. Any word if it'll be live action or animation? Something vaguely like Jericho but with more of a Fallout vibe (mutants, enclave, original FO1/FO2 style brotherhood, etc) and not cancelled after one and a bit seasons might be cool.

How can you copyright an entire genre on television? I suppose no one has done it before, but still.
