I agree. I think sometimes people get a bit wrapped up in the idea of certain games being art and seem to forget there should be some sort of fun gameplay there.

I didn't think it was as amazing as people made it out to be, a solid 7/10 from me.

I wouldn't call it crap but I didn't get on with Bayonetta, gave up on it about half way through the game, as I just grew bored of it.

I know there aren't that many tower defence games like it but the thought of game that you can't stop playing its is so good. It needs to be downloadable. It can cost up to £50 pounds but it has to be fantastic with loads of replay value to cost that much. I know world of goo so don't say that.

Defence Grid: The Awakening is a great game in the same genre, available on PC and Xbox 360. The PC version is currently on sale on steam.

If you want a free game, try Desktop Tower Defence.

edit: lol i just replied to a bot.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

I am also in agreement. It's very rare when a game can be truly considered to be artistic, so people get kind of carried away with those that are. See also: Braid.

Braid was fun!

Agreed, but it was not a masterpiece like some people believe. I'd give it 6/10. Good but not spectacular. The fact that the puzzles were too straight forward sort of deducted form the appeal. If they made a new game, more callenging with better platforming, it would be great. The main problem is that it was vastly overpriced for what it was.

Halo and COD for me. Never got on with either although I can appreciate their effect on the industry.

Really? Four things make it stand out for me:

1. Settings
2. Vehicles
3. AI
4. Weapons

Some of those may not apply so much anymore after being popularised by the original Halo (e.g. vehicles are common in FPSs nowadays) but when I got to the second level in Halo:CE for the first time I was blown away. It was just so refreshing to have a huge, lush outdoor environment with clever enemies flying overhead and fighting tactically in groups. It was such a welcome change from the dark and depressing corridor shooters that littered the market at the time.

I really don't see how anyone could have played Halo:CE on release and thought 'just another FPS'.

Perhaps for PC gamers Halo was just another FPS but over on consoles it was streets ahead of the competition much like Goldeneye was back on the N64. Both games truly raised the bar for console shooters.

I know I'm going to get stick for these and I'm throwing in the disclaimer that I don't think these games are crap, just that I don't enjoy/get on with:

Metal Gear Solid
Mario games
Most Nintendo games (aside from Zelda OOT, Twilight Princess and Majoras Mask)
Zelda: The Wind Waker
Sonic and Knuckles

Please do not post this in the "No Context" thread
