I'm gonna say CoD and Disgaea.

I found CoD 2 painfully dull and tarred the rest of the series with the same brush and I thought Disgaea was far too complicated and I just didn't have the patience.

Oh and despite being a massive Zelda fan I think the series took a distinct down turn after the N64 so add Wind Waker and Twilight Princess to my choices as they're just not that good. Although for completions sake I will finish Twilight Princess eventually.

Gears of War - The games look gorgeous but the gameplay is fundamentally gooseberry fool. Horde mode aside, the multiplayer is so bad it actually offends me.

ALL ABOARD THE NEGATIVITY TRAIN.

Oblivion: seems like they spent all their time making it big and complicated with lots of weapons and lots of items and forgot to make any part of it remotely entertaining. It doesn't even look especially nice.

Bowser's Inside Story: for me the series has never recaptured the quality of the first instalment. The Bowser element looked like it would add something to the mix but in practise it just amounted to some basic platforming bits.

Bioshock: nice graphics and a reasonable plot twist, but the gameplay is just completely unremarkable and never varies. Seeing exciting things happen on the other sides of windows every now and then doesn't stop it from getting boring after about twenty minutes.

Gears: although admittedly I didn't play it for a very long time, it just bored me.

Little King's Story: another one I didn't play for very long. I genuinely couldn't find any gameplay substance in it.

Peggle: I'm still convinced this is some kind of elaborate practical joke/social experiment and no one actually really enjoys watching a ball randomly hit pegs to Beethoven.

Phantom Hourglass: a Zelda game with no good puzzles and no real sense of adventure. Nothingy.

Professor Layton series: well I don't think it's crap, exactly, but I do find it kind of bemusing the level of praise that's showered on a basic point 'n' click game glued to a a book of fairly easy logic puzzles. Having said that I did play the first one right to the end and am considering getting the next one :shifty:

Space Invaders Extreme: this is probably the least constructive bit of criticism in a post full of unconstructive criticism but guys, seriously, it is just Space Invaders.

Halo just seems divisive, I seem to remember a lot of people on this forum taking the Halo 4 announcement really well.

I can think of a good few criticisms for the series, but for the most part the people who criticise use poorly constructed criticism which isn't very well thought out and backed with an assortment of buzz words/phrases.

Gears Of War. I played it plenty, but who knows why. Moving your character is like driving a tank bound to velocity. It's so sluggish where the physics are concerned, the Locust might as well have pumped the main character's body to its capacity with seimen and had me drag the main character around. The cover system is tired, the reticle for aiming is akin shooting into a tunnel - it's a really strawberry floating drawn out game. I don't understand that people can devote such time to it. At best, I'd say it's a good co-op game.

Yeah, this is weird in that I kind of enjoy it while playing, then look back and think how dull and 'maths homework'-like it actually is when you take away the cartoons.

This is true, but I grow more fond of Bioshock over time because my memories of playing it tell me I enjoyed it more than I thought I did at the time. I think you (not you, I mean I, everyone,) don't always appreciate a game providing something new in the setting, the mood, the vibe that it creates at the time of its release, but only years later when literally nothing even attempts to capture what it did. Like some games are so fresh in their aesthetic but fairly underwhelming in their gameplay that playing them at the time and getting really into them you get used to their style and then only judge it on how well in plays. I just remembered that Killer 7 existed a few weeks ago, i think i had happy memories playing it, all alone. They create their own language that's so rich in every area, from the use of audio to the hud design, every facet has been handled with such care and consideration that it leaves a lasting memory.

Final Fantasy XII and Halo: ODST. They're the only two I really can't understand the popularity of.

I was only half joking. Of course it's a fantastic game, but I really preferred the original Resi style. So as much as I enjoy RE4, I've always kind of resented how it changed the series. I long for a Resi game like the old ones.

As for Pokemon and Street Fighter, I just can't get on with them, no matter how many times I try. I wouldn't really call them crap, because they've obviously got something right, for them to be so popular. I guess they're just not for me.

All of the Halo games - just not my cup of tea, they all look the same. I could be shown a screenshot of any of them ad wouldn't know which in the series it was from

Any fighting game like Capcom vs SNK, Streetfighter etc - boring as strawberry float

inFamous - hated it, and the sequel looks just as gooseberry fool

Other than those though I generally give most games a chance. Having said that, if any game gains a kind of snobby elitist following then that gets up my nose :x

Bioshock! Nice setting, crappy gameplay and as it's a game that makes it a crappy game in my book. So yeah, Bioshock is well gooseberry fool.

Ayn Rand has a lot to answer for. :x

That's what I think. More or less.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

The only one that I can think of that seems to get universal love online is Chibi-Robo on the Gamecube. I get that it has that Nintendo charm but it's also incredibly monotonous. The second I found myself having any kind of fun, the game would sent me off to plug myself into the wall or back to my base. I wouldn't say it's crap but it certainly never made me happy, happy, happy.

I'm not sure people have actually read the topic title, but some of the comments are a little odd. Taking the Halo series as an example, do people really think it's crap because it's not their cup of tea or hasn't changed much in 10 years? No, I don't think so. There is a difference between seeing a game as crap and not enjoying it.

Yes?

It's probably the biggest budget, most well put-together DS game of all of the times. Yes, the puzzles are mostly pretty usual logic ones (and my God, those milk jug puzzles... :x ), but it's a much better game than similar story-based puzzle collections on the system.

I was also careful to specify a singlular Halo game rather than the entire franchise, as I've rather enjoyed all the other ones :shifty:
