That's been my biggest problem with the franchise in recent years. It's like they create this amazing backstory, and then go: "actually, the people who buy the games aren't going to care about this brilliant story, they just want to shoot aliens in the face. Let's just keep it all in the books". Even if they didn't try and explain it during the game, some kind of unlockable encyclopaedia of Halo knowledge wouldn't have gone amiss.

I have enjoyed the books much more than Halo 3 or Reach. ODST and Wars were strawberry floating amazing though

I still need to finish reading the books. I've only finished The Fall of Reach :fp:

Ghosts of Onyx is a great read.

Glasslands is gonna be awesome!

@Falsey

Oh yeah man, buyers remorse. Halo:Reach TOTALLY flopped, all of Halo 3's buyers just strawberry floatin' abandoned that gooseberry fool. Halo doesn't have a large competitive or creative community to speak of. All of the forge maps and Reach tournaments are strawberry floating Microsoft propaganda.

Ever heard of buyers remorse?

Then the second game would bomb, Halo 2 didn't bomb. Maybe they were suckered twice eh? How many did Halo 3 sell again and Halo Reach

The argument is invalid. I bought Halo 2. It wasnt particularly impressive. In fact, Id go as far as to say I was outright disappointed.

Halo 3 - Cant have been anything to do with the massive marketing campaign? Cant have been that it was supposed to tie up the story that so many of us were jipped out of in the second installment or anything like that. Nope. Cant have been that it was included in multiple bundles and multipacks and rereleases. Nope. It is in fact GOTAY.

Reach - I dont know any hard sales figures for this one, but I do know that people bought it and didnt like it. I know that some people bought it and wouldnt argue it was a 10/10 game. I bought it, I had a great deal of fun with it. Is it a 10/10 perfect game? Hells no.

This is why people jump on Born Stellar, Rik.

Maybe if you'll try and hop off your idiotic and poorly founded pedestal you'll see that perhaps we call someone an idiot because they are in fact, an idiot.

Listen to yourself, you're trying to write of tens of millions of sales now as if they didn't exist

Take a deep breath and clear your mind for a second, you'll feel so much better.

Oh and I really like Brink 8-)

Im not denying sales at all. Are you mad?

Im stating that sales do not equal happy customers. What are you struggling to understand here?

Would you rather I said I pirated all of the Halo games and didnt like them? I bought them all to play them and see if Id like them. Its nothing to do with buying and coming to the automatic conclusion that it is good.

For the record, you dumb gooseberry fool, I actually really enjoyed the Halo games. They were very good for what they were. But your arguments here are just absolutely, mind bendingly ridiculous. I find it difficult to believe that you cannot see this yourself.

Ok you haven't given any detail on why but we'll let that ride.

Can I ask you in all seriousness do you understand the place of Halo 2 in online console multiplayer? How it was the start of what we all take for granted now?

If you do then at least you can undestand partly why the game is held in such regard, if you can't then I can't help you.

Serious question time, because it's just popped into my head: How many of those sales do you think were major Halo fans buying multiple copies (of the different limited editions/console)? I know that Shadow ended up with two or three copies. I think I've got 3 lying around...

I like Halo personally, but this idea is ridiculous. Transformers movies sell millions of tickets, doesnt mean theyre any good. Girls Aloud and Westlife sell million on millions of albums, are they great artists?

I would put something like Zumba Fitness in that bracket, not Halo.

Those examples you give didn't also attain the widespread critical acclaim I mentioned earlier.

No, you melon, I was just wondering how many sales could be attributed to that. I'm not trying to smite down whatever you're saying, I'm just trying to lean the conversation towards something more civil.

I wouldn't say there was more than a few hundred people who would buy multiple copies.

Oh god these people. I think Halo 3's going on 12 million nowadays anyway. He seems to think that buyers remorse is a factor, yet completely failing to address the continually high sales as well as the sheer amount of projects we see from the core community.

I didnt say that it wasnt a big deal at the time. But I can also understand why some people dont like it.

I also like how you say it started off all we take for granted now. On the xbox maybe, and even that I certainly dont take for granted when it charges me a subscription fee. The PC had rock solid online gaming for a loooooong time before the xbox showed up.

You are missing the point here.

(First of all, I would very much like to see these sales charts which show continually high sales, I trust you havent pulled that fact out of thin air?)

Second of all, Id draw your attention to the words 'core community'. These are people that already like the game, yes? Why would they argue that they dont like it.

The fact here is some people have said that they didnt like Halo - this is apparantly unfathomable to you and Rik. Now because 'core community' members continue to play it, that renders it impossible for other people to dislike it?

Also, LOL @ your coherent statement forming skills.

This is a stupid argument that cannot be won. Some people don't like things and you can give as many 'objectively it is the best because' arguments as you like, it won't change anything.

It's just one of the regularly reoccurring hot topics on GR that pops up every now and then, the other one being The Deer Hunter in OT. Drunken Master is adamant that it's a bad film despite critical and commercial success, does this make him an idiot? Yes No.

It's nothing to do with the PC, lets not go there.

I specifically said console online multiplayer for a reason, before Halo 2 console online multiplayer was a very limited userbase and wasn't that popular. Halo 2 changed all that and we only have to look at the millions playing Call Of Duty on consoles online every day to see what an effect that had.

Everyone can see that and its place in history whether you like Halo or not.

Well according to the cited wikipedia source, Halo 1 & 2 between them sold 14.8 million copies. VGChartz has Halo 3 down for 11.26 million, whether true or not it it's not unrealistic as the game had sold 8.1 million copies as of 2008 and it had been reported to have broke the 10 million barrier. ODST broke 3 million and that was reported in 2009. VGChartz has it down for near 6 at this current state in time.

'In North America, Reach sold 3.3 million units according to NPD Group figures, making it the third title in the console generation to sell more than three million units its first month, the other two being Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2.[63]'. I can't find any total sales figures for Reach, but I don't think I need to. The sales have been continually extremely strong for all Halo games.

So yeah, continually high sales.
