Listen to yourself, you're trying to write of tens of millions of sales now as if they didn't exist

Serious question time, because it's just popped into my head: How many of those sales do you think were major Halo fans buying multiple copies (of the different limited editions/console)? I know that Shadow ended up with two or three copies. I think I've got 3 lying around...

You really think it sold over 10 million copies because millions of people purchased multiple copies? Really?

LOL

Oh god these people. I think Halo 3's going on 12 million nowadays anyway. He seems to think that buyers remorse is a factor, yet completely failing to address the continually high sales as well as the sheer amount of projects we see from the core community.

You are missing the point here.

(First of all, I would very much like to see these sales charts which show continually high sales, I trust you havent pulled that fact out of thin air?)

Second of all, Id draw your attention to the words 'core community'. These are people that already like the game, yes? Why would they argue that they dont like it.

The fact here is some people have said that they didnt like Halo - this is apparantly unfathomable to you and Rik. Now because 'core community' members continue to play it, that renders it impossible for other people to dislike it?

Also, LOL @ your coherent statement forming skills.

Well according to the cited wikipedia source, Halo 1 & 2 between them sold 14.8 million copies. VGChartz has Halo 3 down for 11.26 million, whether true or not it it's not unrealistic as the game had sold 8.1 million copies as of 2008 and it had been reported to have broke the 10 million barrier. ODST broke 3 million and that was reported in 2009. VGChartz has it down for near 6 at this current state in time.

'In North America, Reach sold 3.3 million units according to NPD Group figures, making it the third title in the console generation to sell more than three million units its first month, the other two being Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2.[63]'. I can't find any total sales figures for Reach, but I don't think I need to. The sales have been continually extremely strong for all Halo games.

Either way, you've finished this argument. You've noted that Halo has an extremely large core community, it is a well loved series. From the haters we've seen nothing more than the classic cop out arguments, it's a great series and deserves the praise it gets.

Look and despair, perhaps. But I jest.

Rik wrote:Everyone can see that and its place in history whether you like Halo or not.

Im not sure anybody argued against that. Forgive me if Im wrong, but I thought this thread was for saying games you dont like that seemingly everybody else does. Not discounting the effects on the industry (for better or worse) that one game may have had.

It would appear as though some people have taken others' dislike of Halo as a personal insult, as is all too often the case where fanboys roam free.

I'm good with people disliking Halo, I'm just sick of bandwagon criticism.

You are stupid. Thats a bit harsh, on reflection.

1. I didnt say once that it has 'an extremely large core community, it is a well loved series'. I simply drew on the fact that you said it A 'core community' (note the lack of extremely large or well loved).

2. Theres nothing about haters or cop out arguments. Some people dislike Halo. That is allowed. Because you may love it every much doesnt mean other people have to. Im sure your mother loves you a lot, myself, Im not too fond - but thats life, buddy. Some people will dislike thigns you like. Its not a personal insult unless you choose to read it as one.

Its frankly admirable that you would choose to defend a single series with such veracity, but somewhat misplaced in a thread which asked people to state their dislike for popular games, no?

I've had this very same discussion about Halo many times over the last few years, which is why I was pointing out to BS not to bother debating it.

Can we not just dislike games for our own reasons? I have Halo 1, 2 and 3 but they're nothing special. They're just quite good FPS games.

Well there's admirably great points being made against many games like Half Life 2, Resi 4 etc, yet when it comes to Halo I just see the typical 'average', 'overrated', 'generic' wombo combo.

Perhaps for some people it is overrated. Rik pointed out that it received a perfect 10 from Edge.

I dont read Edge myself, but its clear that some people take note of these things. Some would argue that it is not a perfect game and is thusly, overrated.

Its also eay to see where the generic argument comes from. Not that its right. But in an industry rather heavily saturated with 'man shooter' or 'space marine alien shooter' - similiarities can be drawn.

It all started like I said when the first Xbox game got that Edge ten, the only game of that console generation to do so and launched the whole Xbox brand which everyone said would die on its arse and that burns some people.

Best to ignore them.

Like I said there are loads of 3D platformers, does this make Mario Galaxy generic?

Best to ignore them because he isn't going to change anyones mind, you can point out the facts about critical and commercial success and they will just say they don't like it personally. It's a cheap get out that can't be reasoned with so why bother.

Is that not what this topic was about though, popular games that you dislike on a personal level? :?

Check out my YouTube channel!
One man should not have this much power in this game. Luckily I'm not an ordinary man.

It was, but I think BS and Rik took offence to some people mentioning that they don't like the Halo franchise.

Fair enough. BS seemed to take offense to people disrespecting the Halo franchise, then.

EDIT: Suzz does have a point, though.

Then the second game would bomb, Halo 2 didn't bomb. Maybe they were suckered twice eh? How many did Halo 3 sell again and Halo Reach

If popularity = quality then Britain's got Talent would be a better television programme than The Wire. I don't dispute Halo is popular with its fans but that doesn't erase the fact that both of the two Halo single player campaigns (Halo and Halo 3) I've played bored me immensely.
