To be fair to France qualifying form normally means jack gooseberry fool when it comes to the World cup. That said the group they're in is basically a group of banana skins. Uruguay have some very talented players, South Africa are the hosts so will obviously be well up for every game and Mexico can play some good Football as shown v England. Saying that they could just as easily destroy all of them. Will be a fascinating group.

Never underestimate the home nation. We all saw what happened with South Korea.

It's quite possibly the hardest group to predict, for certainly.

I would love to see France crash out of the tournament, like they do in the South Korea/Japan World Cup. 8-)

It's a very real possibility, I'd even say it's a likelihood. South Africa are going into the tournament off the back of an astounding run, Uruguay are always dangerous and Mexico are a quality outfit too. If France and Uruguay draw (likely imo) then this group is wide open.

Apart from you put 'finally fling' instead of 'final fling' in the bit about Blanco. [/pedant]

Cant wait for more!

And Costa Rice instead of Costa Rica. But it's an excellent idea, and I enjoyed reading that. :D

Group D is far harder, IMO.

It really is tough to predict this one. I like Mexico and Uruguay's attacking options but am worried about their defending especially after watching Mexico play England. France have no players bar Ribery near the top of their game and despite being a pretty poor side I'd hate to rule out South Africa due to being at home.

So to sum up...I have no idea.

Nice job Ginga.

Ginga, how likely is Gourcuff to start in the French 11? Just need to know for a fantasy tournament thing I'm doing with some friends.

Went back and checked. Definitely says Uruguay beat Costa Rice to get into the WC.

It depends on the formation they are using but most recently he's been a pretty standard part of midfield, especially with Nasri, Diarra, Vieira not there. It could be him and Toulalan in the centre.

I thought you meant in Mexico's profile as there was a typo mentioned before :fp: Apologies, sorted!
