Jiggerjay, you do realize you're £14.50 over budget, and don't have £14.50 left to spend (as you've quoted)?

Seven, are you including the PS2 to PS3 pad convertor? You've included it in your post, but not included the price in the figures you've quoted.

I may just have to sign of for this next year as my home situation has drastically changed over the last few days.

Opening Balance -£3575.00

Zelda Spirit Tracks Tin Edition £25

Closing Balance -£3600.00

Wife has got me Dragon Age and PES 2010 on 360 for Xmas so that's saved me a few quid, so should come in under the 5k barrier.

I just couldn't resist Valkyria Chronicles on PS3 for sub £18. Probably/definitely my last purchase of 09

Previous balance: -£77.50
Bought: VC (PS3) £18.00
New balance: -£95.50

I seem to be in the same situation as last year though where I've got a bundle of games that I now need to play. Next year I really need to stop buying games on release (aside from FFXIII and Red Dead Redemption) and then pick them up cheaper later on. The other option would be to not buy any games next year and just use a rental service for the year. Then pick up the ones I really liked later on for a second playthrough when they are much cheaper. Something to mull over for the new year!

Will "try" and do the same.

I have done pretty well with the bargains this year with MW2 (£26 Sainsbury - day of release) , FIFA 10 (£25 Tesco's day of release), Op Flashpoint (£31 Argos pre-order), Smackdown (£25 Amazon) and Episodes from Liberty (£18 Zavvi) all waiting for me to open as Xmas pressies (hence not included on my personal budget).

There is absolutely no need for me to get Mass Effect 2 on day of release as the above lot will keep me going for at least 3 months so I will try and benefit from cheaper prices after a few weeks and pick up new releases at the £20-25 price point.

Next Xmas, I'm not going to pre-order anything and pick everything I want up in December. My strategy was pre-order if I saw it for around £30 or wait if it was more expensive. However, a few games like Flashpoint and Smackdown featured in the £20 deal of the day so I paid a few quid more than this.. and that annoys me a little as a self declared bargain hunter!

The only exception to this are my absolute "must have's" (i.e. Left 4 Dead 2 and Borderlands this year) but that will be limited to 2-3 games max when I see next years releases.

Hmmn, might also try and pick up Tiger Woods 2010 cheap as there may not be a new version next year!

I think there will be a Tiger 2011 but it'll be a GTA clone!

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Tin Edition - £24.99
£20 PSN Voucher - £15.95
2 x 2100 MS Points - £30

Total for December - £70.94

Left for Year = -£1574.21

And done. I'm not planning on buying anything more this year.

Total games spending for 2009 = £2774.21.

I think its about the same as last year to be honest, next year will be less.

Ordered Mini Ninja's @ £11.95 @ Zavvi
JiggerJay = £500 (Spent £514.50) Balance = £-14.50

Left for the year - £26.45

Still not bad! Although if the sales are any good, I could easily blow a few hundred quid!

Nearly there now!

Has anyone been surprised by how much or how little they've spent?

Having got rid of my 360 and all it's games & accessories, I've spent approx £1200 this year. Considering I set myself a budget of £300 I don't think I've done very well. I'm not overly surprised by how much I've spent, but I did think it would've been easier to keep my spending down.

For some reason, I'll say I did expect to spend about 1.5k-2k a year, it's just I find it surprising I've spent alot on some months I thought were rather quiet months; some on busier months yet I spend less, and expected some.

I did find it interesting though. It's also helping me to save some money and go out with my mates instead of just spending last £20-£30 on games, so my social life has gotten -alot- better.

If I wasn't actually buying any games I missed last years, I might've make it...but even so I didn't really regret it; I enjoyed the games I played this year and I'm sure 2010 will be even better. But I will have to do better next year; because I plan learn how to drive, this time for serious and go out more.

But yeah, thanks for doing this! It's great idea in long run and we're grateful for you to sticking to it despite alot of beef you had here.

Update since my last post.

Old balance: -£216.00

Spent:
Modern Warfare 2 (360): £30
Zelda: Spirt Tracks (DS): £25.00
Tales of Symphonia: DotNW (Wii): £25.00
Fire Emblem: Radient Dawn (Wii): £25.00
Total: £105.00

New balance: -£321.00

I think that's the lot for the year.

Edit: If it hadn't been for the Wii (and I never expected to buy one, it just it looks so lovely in black) and subsequent games, then I would only have been £51 over budget.

£400 a year on games is (would have been) pretty good going.

I think I'll probably spend less next year; I'm really struggling for time to play games, and I think a massive clear out is needed, and try and claw back some of the money I've spent over the years.

If only I haven't brought my budget down from £300 to £200, I would be well under budget.

All I have to say is that I blame the bloody beatles.

Ah... can't stay mad at it. It's such a fabulous game. 8-)

Just added £20 to my PSN account. Might as well do it now so it goes on this years figures.
