Good stuff TIMB. FPS of the year? Could well be, only contender's i can imeditaly think of would be farcry 2 and mirrors edge.. But my gut says this has got them both beat.

Well I think Mirrors Edge will be better...but its not an FPS so it doesn't count.
There aren't really a huge number of FPSs due out this year BiA:HH, FEAR 2 Project Origin, CoD WaW, Resistance 2 and Left 4 Dead.
Brothers in Arms has a chance, L4D probably more so.
Personally though I can't see any of them, Warhead included, beating Bad Company.
I personally think TIMB (Hugo right?) is sort of correct in thinking that the single player in Bad Company was one of the best examples seen in a FPS in recent years. It certainly bettered the tripe that was the single player campaign of Call Of Duty 4 and Halo 3 as well as many others like Medal Of Honor: Allied Assault, Timeshift, Turok, Metroid Prime, The Darkness, Haze and more. Putting it up there with Deus Ex & Half Life 2 is silly though.

Actually its made by DICE and its their first attempt at a proper single player campaign.

Yep.
It certainly bettered...Metroid Prime
Different genres, but either way - no. I'd agree on practically every other count (though I've not played COD4).
Except BF:BC really isn't as good as all that in multi-player even let alone single player.
In fact its a borderline travesty of a game in many ways. For all its talk of freedom and multiple ways of handling objectives its really very shallow and incredibly repetitive in its approach. Whilst it forgoes invisible walls to funnel you in, it might as well use the same mechanic by having sections on the map spell instant mortar death for anyone whom wonders outside the 'battle area'. But all that's not really important, what is however is the utterly strawberry floating useless companion A.I, all of whom do absolutely nothing.
On of your companions sees fit to bring along a heavy machine gun and clearly, there, on his back a massive great rocket launcher, good job, there's plenty of armour around that needs blowing up...except he never will use it to blow up any armour ever. No he'd rather stand around invincibly with your other allies doing, well, not a lot other then getting shot at by enemies.
On the subject of enemies, blimey, they've got keen eyes haven't they? seemingly the player must have a neon target over his head visible from 12 miles away as once they get those crack shots on you they'll never give up. Even if your cohorts are all standing around doing nothing (which they will be) the enemies would still rather shoot you, in a barn, behind a tree, from 50 years away.
And lets now get onto the messy subject of tress, barns and the environment as a whole. Its dreadfully dull out there in BFBC land I'm afraid. Mainly green and grey...with a bit of red brick used for the same collection of empty houses. One can only presume the residents of these tiny repeating villages all petitioned against an ikea proposal, hence why all their houses seem devoid of any kind of furniture or indeed 'soul' whatsoever.
But you can blow them up Zombite! i hear no-one but Hugo proclaim. Yeah lovely, except its all very contrived and they blow up in exactly the same way every time until they get to that magic point where they are no longer 'blow-up-able' much like red faction did (though not as good) roughly 10 years ago.
Couple all this with a terrible narrative, characters with zero soul or personality, hopelessly unfunny humorous asides and you've actually got a fairly gooseberry fool single player in almost every single regard. Yes it might hint at the battlefield experience in that it offers an illusion of freedom, vehicles and other 'lovely things', but if the worlds so lifeless and dull, with characters so utterly devoid of soul or any intelligence whatsoever, immersion spoiling boundaries and utterly stupid 'health recharge forever sticks' whats the bloody point? Crysis wipes the floor with it, in every single way.
You know what Zombite? Almost every single point you make is 100% factually incorrect, oh yes.
And if its not a complete lie then its used by you in such a way that it ends up being a lie.
Example?

Utter bollocks. While obviously the maps aren't infinite, the game never 'funnels' you. What you call the 'battle area' is a massive map, yes it has invisible walls that will kill you if you try to leave the map, but only when you try to leave the level...you are given complete freedom within the map...and like I said, MASSIVE.
I experienced all of the above when I PLAYED THE GAME MYSELF. So perhaps my copy was the borked version, or better yet, maybe i wasn't wearing my special "wow i think this is the best thing ive ever seen" Hugo specs.TM that day.
I don't just sit around waiting for you to make a post and make this gooseberry fool you you know, Ive got other things to do, like try and get everyone to buy decent laptops and not gooseberry fool mac-book things in ATF.
Or possibly, (get this its a killer) i didn't like it that much and you, ...um did? madness i know. Doesn't make me wrong, nor you right, but rather, two different people with TWO DIFFERENT TAKES ON THE SAME GAME! \o/ yay for democracy eh Hugo?
This perhaps isn't the best place for this to continue.
I'm not doubting you didn't like the game, what I'm saying is that some of the things you say make absolutely no sense. The map thing in particular, it might be what you felt at the time of playing the game, but in actual fact its a nonsensical view.
Obviously the maps aren't infinite, obviously you can't literally go anywhere. What you say about it practically funneling you does not follow from those things. You can go anywhere 'within the confines of the map' and the maps being particularly large, its a lie to say that its 'funneled in', even if thats how you felt.
But enough of this, we are in the Crysis Warhead topic, a game I'm very much looking forward to.
