PC constantly rebooting.

Since this afternoon my computer is constantly rebooting itself. I've checked the health of the SSD that Windows 10 is installed on using Samsung Magician and it says the drive's health is 'Good'.

It also rebooted itself when in the BIOS settings too.

When it reboots it goes straight to the MSI screen rather than powering down and then switching itself on again.

Any help as to what the problem may be would be very welcome.

I am guessing it doesn't give an error message or beeps?

first thing I'd do is clear CMOS by taking the battery out or boot in 'safe' mode

Doesn't give either, screen goes black and it goes straight to the boot screen.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

When it next happens, open your start menu and type "Event Viewer". Look in Windows Logs (application and system) and see if theres anything there for the time when it happened.

 I have.

I've also checked the temperature of the processor and it's running at its usual temperature.

If it's completely stuck in a boot loop then you might need to create a bootable drive to investigate further - but to do that you'll need another machine that you can get on to!

If it's rebooting when in the BIOS then it sounds like something more than just "Windows has messed up". How quickly does the reboot happen?

It varies. Anywhere from a minute to 10 minutes.

Looked in Event Viewer and and each time it has happened it says 'Kernel-Power' under the 'Critical' section.

I've ordered a new PSU and I'll see if that makes a difference. I'm ruling out the SSD as Samsung Magician says it's in good health and I'm ruling out a windows issue due to it rebooting while in the BIOS menu.

The past week has already been gooseberry fool enough as my Nan died last week  , now with this issue I'm hoping it doesn't get any worse. :x

In the meantime you could try a full teardown and rebuild.

The power supply is arriving tomorrow so I'll try that first. Downloaded a few things that check the life of the hard drives and both are fine. It says the SSD that Windows is on still has 88% life left.

The power supply is just over 6 years old, and looking on Google they start to fail around that time, so it's looking more likely that that's where the fault lies.

true, but it could be a loose cable or something, even just re-seating the RAM and clearing cmos might help.

hope you get it fixed though

this.
the number of problems ive solved by simply opening the computer, checking everything is connected briefly and then turning it back on again :fp:

Might be worth a memory test run as well, could be some bad RAM, though if it's doing it in the BIOS then that makes me think PSU.

Aye PSU seems like the solid candidate there, or at least delivery of power (so yeah, check your cable connections!)

6 years isn't terrible, but any half decent power supply should be flying past that age really so don't be too quick to dump it!

Sounds like the power cable could have a slight break in it from being tightly bent (context) Or something, and maybe you're ever so slightly moving it without realising and breaking the connection.
