On 17 Jun 2020:
Natalie Elphicke voted for abortion to revert to being criminal offence in Northern Ireland, with case law providing exceptions only where there is a serious adverse health impact to the woman.

The Dover MP drew backlash this summer after the England forward's penalty miss in the Euro 2020 final by suggesting he would have had a better chance of scoring had he not spent the preceding months campaigning over free school meals for children from deprived backgrounds.

In a private message to Tory colleagues after England's loss to Italy, Ms Elphicke said: “They lost. Would it be ungenerous to suggest Rashford should have spent more time perfecting his game and less time playing politics.”

I'm not entirely sure they can reject her, surely the MP can stand for any political party they wish?

Of course they can reject them. No party has to take anybody in that the party doesn't want.

Ask Jeremy Corbyn. ;)

Yeah, it's sickening. Welcoming 2019 Tories to Labour is definitely in the 'strawberry float it, everything sucks' zone.

I don't know for certain, haven't tried looking it up, and posting in possibly embarrassing ignorance here but surely, surely that's not the case. I'll be stunned if Labour didn't have the option to block her from joining them. Stunned, I tell you!

Each party controls who or doesn't represent them in Parliament. Several MPs are sitting as independents because their respective whips have been withdrawn by whichever party.

Labour are actively saying Elphicke is welcome to represent the Labour party in Parliament.

Suspended much more recently than Diane Abbott. Have to assume they just want Abbott to stand down voluntarily rather have Corbyn's situation be repeated as what else could explain dragging out the investigation for so long?

I'm not well educated on politics but from where I'm standing...Tory MP's defecting to labour just shows the farce of it all. It's a popularity contest, they have no values or morals, they just want to survive. Nobody with the values of a tory should then go 'oh actually, now i do care about poor people.' Labour shouldn't have anything to do with them.

Both the recent defectors have stated they are standing down at the next election, so this isn't really about them keeping their current jobs.

That said, I'm not debating the fact that it's a popularity contest and they just want to survive! I imagine not being spat on in public for the next 5 years might be a motivator, too!

For most politicians it is a career. Or the building blocks to enrich themselves.

There are some who are there to improve the country and to help ordinary people. But those politicians rarely get to rise to any great office.

And when they do appear, the Sun and the Daily Mail destroy them.

Apparantly the Tory MP who defected is standing down at the election anyway, this is purely to humiliate Sunak it looks like.
