PostSo really, what is there worth buying coming out?

In another thread I put forward the idea that this is the worst year ever. I'm sticking to my word because really, there isn't much at all being released this year which is worth my money. Looking at release schedules the two games which I intend to buy over the rest of the year are Race Pro and WipEout HD. There are other games (like Midnight Club: Los Angeles, Little Big Planet) which I might consider buying, but these will likely end up as rentals.

This time last year I was looking forward to true classics like Project Gotham Racing 4 and Call of Duty 4. I'm just shocked that there is so little on the horizon. I thought it would all be sorted out by E3 and Games Convention, but now both of these events are over there is still nothing making me feel excited about forthcoming games.

There's Viva Pinata and Spore out on Friday, then there's Fable 2, Star Wars, Gears 2, Mercenaries, Infinite Undiscovery, CoD5, LBP, Animal Crossing, MotorStorm and Resistance 2, I could go on.

You're right though that is the worst line-up ever.

When you subtract the fanboy hype factor from your list then you're left with:

Call of Duty 5 (which isn't being developed by the team that made Call of Duty 4, so it will likely not be as good).

The only game I'm really excited about at the moment is Resi 5 and that's not out for 6 months. Sure I'll play GoW2, Fable 2 etc etc but they don't excite me like Resi.

There is no "fanboy hype" for LBP, it's all down to how wonderfully creative it is. I can't see how a game with virtually no developer-pedigree behind it and it being a totally new IP, can be "fanboy hyped". :?

Apart from RacePro and Gears 2, I'm not entirely sure. I'd like to know what other big hitters are coming out before the end of the year.

Not sure if I can be bothered to put the time into LBP. And besides I don't have any real world mates who play on PSN, so that's a big put off, for me.

Edit- oh, Far Cry 2 should be good.

Correct. EA are making it just for me. I apparently have to 'share it' with the rest of you...

What fanboy hype? All the games he's listed are something to be excited about.

And he didn't even mention Left 4 Dead and Fallout 3, both of which are looking fantastic.

Yeah, whatever, maybe video games isn't the right hobby for you.

Perhaps you'd enjoy cross-stitch?

Fable 2 could end up being the clear 'Game of the Year'.

Fallout 3 should please anyone who liked Oblivion.

Little Big Planet is still looking amazing.

Gears of War 2 is going to be bigger and better than the original.

Mirror's Edge looks to offer a genuinely good first person platforming experience.

Prince of Persia could be the next gen equivalent of Sands of Time.

Left 4 Dead is a co-op shooter the likes of which we haven't seen before.

Thats 7 genuine AAA titles that have nothing to do with fanboy hype, which easily matches last years haul.

On top of that lot (and other titles) theres a more or less constant stream of titles of slightly lesser status that nevertheless could turn out to be great...Viva, Merc 2, Samba, Yakuza 2, BiAHH, Crysis Warhead, Socom, Lego Batman, MC LA, Far Cry 2, Dead Space, Endwar, Project Origin, Banjo, SR2, Sonic, CoDWW, TR Underworld, Resistance 2, Motorstorm PR, Lips, Pure and many, many more.

Its insane to suggest theres nothing great due out.
