That's the thing. The only place he was ever Ivo Robotnik was in the English manual, and works based off that.

Hmm I remember in the first Sonic Adventure Sonic kept calling him Eggman but he insisted on calling himself Robotnik so feck knows.

His name is Robotnik, Sonic used to call him 'Eggman' in the cartoons to piss him off.

METAL SONIC COMEBACK? :O

I took that to mean he was recreating the Death Egg. Although, that was kind of done to death through Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Or it could just be that the badniks from the original games are returning instead of the gooseberry fool things that were in the 3d games.

That's actually a very good observation; the only badniks we've seen so far have been updates of ones we've already fought; MotoBug and Batbot. If he's revisiting and improving on the best of his creations then why not bring back the best of his ruined squadrons of badniks? Metal or Mecha Sonic could return too; they are among his creations too, as was the Death Egg (but the Death Egg has only just been completely finished off in this game and as far as we know even Robotnik doesn't have the resources to come up with a new one so quickly).

This game follows on directly from Sonic & Knuckles. Play the two back to back and that's pretty much how close they are together.

I'm excited for this game but you guys know that anyway. Just seeing old school platforming in new graphics would be bliss.

He's always been Dr. Eggman in Japan though. From their point of view, it would be like Bowser's name being changed to General Barbecue or something for the west. Robotnik is a much better name of course, but who as long as he doesn't speak it shouldn't make much difference. :)

Shame, they couldve used to 17 year gap to explain the time taken to construct the new death egg, estimating how long it takes to construct a fully functional Death Egg mind.

This is coming together quite nicely now. I think this is the first time in many, many years that I've been excited about a new Sonic game. I'm surprised on the digital only release though - I expect that they'll release it as episodes first and then put it to retail later. A lot of hardcore fans would buy it twice that way.

Definite, definite purchase.

The silly neighbourhood vegetable.

I guess whether it's download or disc retail depends mainly on file sizes.

Surely it depends on whether Sega thinks people would buy a 2D Sonic game at retail or not?

RE Running Animation Complaints: RubyEclipse (of the Sonic 4 Blog) has officially stated that the running animation we saw in the trailer wasn't Sonic's full speed running animation, and that the actual animation is something closer to what we'd remember from Sonic 3 & Knuckles or Sonic CD. Now, to me, that makes it obvious that it'll be some sort of "wheel 'o' feet," but it could be either a classic circle or the figure eight.

:D

Here:

“While the game is a brand-new adventure, it will definitely pick up after Sonic & Knuckles. However, what you are looking at is the beginning of a new story arc,” said brand manager Ken Balough to Gamespot on the Sonic 4 reveal. “We’re going to deliver a Genesis-era Sonic game as if it were created today that goes to the core of what classic Sonic fans desire. This means [the fan] gets to judge us on our work each step of the way, and we plan on delivering that goal in a big way.”

http://us.gamespot.com/xbox360/action/s ... e=previews

Picking up where Sonic & Knuckles left off. The game's official website has a story section recounting the story so far, and according to that nothing takes place between S&K's end and this game's beginning because Robotnik's fresh defeat at the end of that game serves as his primary motivation for going nuts all over again this time.

No! No No No No. Cease and Desist. Stop thinking like that.

Continuity and motivation and gooseberry fool like that is for thespians. It's also what got Sonic where he is today... Buried under a tonne of crappy spinoffs and a horde of insipid characters who often look nothing like the animal they're named after.

Robotnik doesn't NEED motivation, he's a video-game end boss. He exists solely to maim fluffy animals, and then wrap their still bleeding corpses in highly tuned instruments of remote controlled mass-destruction.

Save anything else for non-canon spin-off media.

Okay then. After being ruined at the end of S&K, Robotnik is once again up to no good. Sonic thinks he's dead so he's got some surprise factor gooseberry fool going on too.

Better?

A iittle birdie told us that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will let you play as Mario in the Wii version. Amazing scenes!

This, coming off the back of those Sonic in Super Mario Galaxy 2 tweets.

Interesting. Slightly unbelievable, but interesting. I don't really see how it'd work though.

If it's even remotely true, I'm gonna guess the same way in both games... completely cosmetic skin job.
