METAL SONIC COMEBACK? :O

I took that to mean he was recreating the Death Egg. Although, that was kind of done to death through Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles

Or it could just be that the badniks from the original games are returning instead of the gooseberry fool things that were in the 3d games.

That's actually a very good observation; the only badniks we've seen so far have been updates of ones we've already fought; MotoBug and Batbot. If he's revisiting and improving on the best of his creations then why not bring back the best of his ruined squadrons of badniks? Metal or Mecha Sonic could return too; they are among his creations too, as was the Death Egg (but the Death Egg has only just been completely finished off in this game and as far as we know even Robotnik doesn't have the resources to come up with a new one so quickly).

Jesus Christ.

Good news is there'll be five zones in episode one :)

It's episodic in the same way that Sonic & Knuckles is Sonic the Hedgehog 3 - Episode 2, apparently. Episodes make something sound short and sweet, and suggest they'll be a lot of them, but the stuff I read on GAF suggested it's only planned at two Episodes, both around the same size as an original game each. They really could have saved themselves a lot of trouble if they had just called them Sonic 4 and Sonic 5, or Sonic 4 and Sonic (some subtitle).

A iittle birdie told us that Sonic the Hedgehog 4 will let you play as Mario in the Wii version. Amazing scenes!

This, coming off the back of those Sonic in Super Mario Galaxy 2 tweets.

Interesting. Slightly unbelievable, but interesting. I don't really see how it'd work though.

It works by being a joke-response to the NGamer tweet.

IIRC, Sonic 3 was supposed to be the game you get when you put Sonic 3 & Knuckles together, but due to development time, they had to split it into 2 parts. This is why, on the level select cheat screen on Sonic 3, you see the likes of Mushroom Hill Zone listed.

I think I have that right. Alvin?

Weren't the level lists for the level select cheat when the '& Knuckles' cart was plugged in? Sonic 3's level select cheat was near impossible at times too :(

My memory may be failing me, but I'm 99% sure that on the Sonic 3 level select screen it had Mushroom Hill Zone, Flying Battery Zone & one other zone from S&K. This is just on the Sonic 3 cart.

I'm surprised on the digital only release though - I expect that they'll release it as episodes first and then put it to retail later. A lot of hardcore fans would buy it twice that way.

Definite, definite purchase.

I guess whether it's download or disc retail depends mainly on file sizes.

Surely it depends on whether Sega thinks people would buy a 2D Sonic game at retail or not?

The problem with Sonic games is that they're completed really quickly and then there's no reason to keep them. It's one of the biggest victims of trade-ins, that's the only reason this is a download. They'll sell more copies this way, simple as that really.

There's also the fact that a 2D sidescroller, even if it is Sonic, can't sell well on disc.

It's cheaper for those who want it anyway.

Oh lord, that video of STH '06 run through has awoken the Sonic fanboy in me and made me actually want to purchase it and Sonic Unleashed.

I didn't mind the first two Sonic Adventures, even if only the Sonic stages were actually any good, and even if those games did have all the hallmarks of Sonic's present day mediocrity - a swelling cast of characters, reduced gameplay, gimmicky levels etc.

Is it true SA is getting a LIVE re-release? I could do with being able to play it without setting up my DC.

I wonder what the bonus stages will be like this time and if all the emeralds will be obtainable in episode 1. Hope they do something newfvor the bonus stages though and don't do a throw back by giving us something we've had before. I hate it when they do that.

Glad to see Sonic 2 is winning the vote, am I the only one who never liked Sonic CD? I would sooner revisit the Master System games than play that again!

Sonic CD used the Sonic 2 engine, some of the level design was brilliant, others it felt like the game was doing too much for you and you weren't in control.
