Sonic the Hedgehog 4 is a 2010 episodic platform video game in development as part of the Sonic the Hedgehog series for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii and iPhone. It is targeted for release in 2010. The game was first announced September 9, 2009 and its official name was revealed on February 4, 2010.

The game is a direct sequel to Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles and will be playable in high definition on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The game follows the adventure of the series' main protagonist, Sonic the Hedgehog after the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic & Knuckles. Following the destruction of the Death Egg on Angel Island, Sonic takes a break and explores new territories by himself. However unknowingly his nemesis Doctor Eggman had also survived their last encounter and is preparing a new trap to get rid of Sonic.

The game will be a two-dimensional side-scrolling platformer reminiscent of the original Sonic games with an emphasis on speed. Players will control only Sonic the Hedgehog, using control mechanics such as the original spin dash and power-ups including power sneakers, and the game will also integrate the homing attack from more recent entries in the series. Players will be able to use the online leaderboards to compare their fastest times.

The Master System version of Sonic the Hedgehog is by far the greatest Sonic game of all-time and has the best music from the series as well. Here's Bridge Zone and Jungle Zone:

Excellent News.

Back in business after a lengthy absence from gaming and Grcade.
Recently got myself a PS4 with FIFA15, TLOU, DriveClub and MW:AW.

I'm thinking it'll either be split up by Zones or into thirds. So packs of one/three zones every week, or every two weeks.

I hate to say it but if they are going episodic with it I'm gonna hope for some additional gameplay. At the very least time-trials and online races for the levels. Simply playing through 3-9 levels of Sonic isn't going to take too much time and I'll need something to keep my interest between episodes.

Reading through the interview on Gamespot it seems that it will be 2 episodes and will be similar to how Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles were split up. Also on the games official site it says one more character is yet to be revealed which I can only guess will either be Tails or Knuckles.

Yeah if they did it by zones you'd be done in about 15 minutes if that. I don't really get why a platformer with no story which tend to be short anyway is being made episodic.

:o

My inner MD-Sonic fanboy probably won't be able to resist this. Provided it doesn't suck the big one of course.

I didn't particularly enjoy 'Labyrinth', but the other zones were all awesome.

Looking forward to this. The recent DS games have been quite good, so I have high hopes for this.

In answer to these two:

It's been confirmed that it'll be split up into zones, and that there'll be five zones in episode one.

Oh and if you look at the "Adventure continues in 2010" text at the end of the trailer you can make out a Sonic 1-style rotating special stage. :)

Targeted for release in 2010. A more precise date would lead to more caring.

We should migrate GRcade to Flarum. :toot:

It's due in the summer so I'd expect an E3 blow-out.
