Really over-priced.

At least they no longer feature that damn minecart. :D

Apparently there are over 16 acts to play through too, so even if you only have 4 or 5 'themes' in episode 1 you've got quite a few levels to play.

Because we're no longer in 1991, and games tend to evolve over time?

Mario still runs and jumps in the same way and it's been 25 years. It wouldn't be a Mario game if you instantly went full speed when holding B to run, would it?

Erm, you do. And now Mario jumps in different ways. Like the wall jump or the backflip, or the triple jump, or the ground pound. Mario has evolved more over the course of time than pretty much anything else from that era.

Those things add to the gameplay. This design change in the new Sonic just sounds like it'll be detrimental to the game.

He jumps in NEW ways but the main gameplay feels pretty much identical to SMB back in the 80's. Sonic doesn't, it's weird and floaty.

£10 isn't really that steep when you factor in Online leaderboards and replay value. I must have played through S3&K 30+ times since its VC re-release. This will be no different. Day 1.

I'd rather pay £40 for a disc version, because you'll end up buying all 4 episodes anyway.

It's four zones, not four levels. I believe you get twelve acts to play through.

£10 for 1/4 of a game is pathetic. I want the full lot on disc, not broken up over several months and 4 episodes.

I'll probably get episode 1 now that Xbox deal thing is going on in October. 800 points back for 2400 points spend.

Spend 2400 points on arcade games or game add ons during October and get 800 points back at the end of November. Sonic costs 1200 and I can see myself getting either Comic Jumper or Super Meat Boy, decent deal.

Spend 2400 points on Live (on anything it seems) in October and you'll get 800 points back, as usual it'll take a month from the end of the offer for them to do it, so you won't see your points till the end of November.

I fear it'll be a Half-Life 2 episodes situation; each one taking over a year to come out. They've not even started working on episode 2 yet by the sounds of it.

How is it taking them so long to make this anyway??

They had to completely redesign the level with the shitty minecart because it was so shitty.

World map revealed: Image

How arbitrary. Sonics 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles didn't need a map, players really don't need to orient themselves in the overworld in Sonic games, so I fail to see a need for a map here.

It's a waste of the developers' time.

What? How do you quantify "replay value"? Surely all games have replay value?

And aren't online leaderboards a pre-requisite of XBLA games that don't feature multiplayer? I thought all games had to have some sort of online support, so that's hardly a feature either.

For 1200 points you could buy Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 (or Sonic and Knuckles) which all feature leaderboards and "replay value" or you could get a third/quarter of this game, it's impossible to argue this represents good value.
