I actually didn't mind that version that much :shifty: Well, apart from the overly-slippery special stage, and some weird music issues. Why do newer versions never get the music-sneaker-speed up right? :|

To be fair though, that last platforming bit of Marble Zone 3 is pretty demanding in any version.

I reckon so. Hopefully they'll show us a teaser of Episode 2 when the first one launches.

Sega has announced that Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 1 will be hitting digital distribution platforms in the “latter half of 2010,” with the “added development” time spent on the ‘tuning’ and ‘balancing’ of the game. While no release date has been announced officially, the use of wording in the company’s statement implies an internal delay.

A press release went live today, officially confirming that Sonic 4 will also be released on Apple’s iPhone and iPod Touch products. The game will be available via the App Store. A video will be released shortly after a new episode of GameSpot’s On The Spot feature, which will see Sega America community manager RubyEclipse to discuss the announcement. It will be aired in an hour’s time.

“SEGA is incredibly happy at the overwhelmingly positive response to Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I from both press and fans around the world, and wants to ensure that we’re delivering the best Sonic experience possible,” reads the official statement, which was also posted on Sega’s Blognik. “With this dedication to quality and the Sonic experience in mind, SEGA has decided to extend the development of the game, and will now release Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I in the latter half of 2010.

“The additional time will allow the Development Team to focus on ensuring overall high-quality throughout the game by continuing to tune, balance, and maintain the kind of polish that an important title like this demands, and ultimately providing fans with an unrivalled classic Sonic feel.”

The details come after The Sonic Stadium gave you the scoop that updates were imminent, following a long period of silence from the publisher. Stick with The Sonic Stadium for any Freudian slips or other announcements as they happen.

I hope that they've delayed it because of the enormous negative backlash to that minecart level.

Yup reading between the lines there I think this is an "oh gooseberry fool, you're right that mine cart is a stupid idea" thus time to rework the zones

Or is that wishful thinking :?

I think that it's them saying "we'll deal with the mine cart as we pretend to fix the homing attack stuff up," but it might actually be them just sorting out niggles in the jumping and stuff. I personally will be satisfied if they deal with the jumping issues and that kinda stuff, but for the game's sake I hope they also take the time to remove the mine cart stage.

So I was playing Sonic today, the first one, and I had about 60 rings, and I jumped onto an invincibility box, but a spiky ball on a chain was swinging around and just as I'd popped the box and bounced off it was right above me so I guess the game glitched and thought I'd gotten squashed and it killed me

After I'd dun-durrrr'd off the screen and the words "Game Over" had come up you could still see the popped invincibility box and the little invincibility square rising out of it, if I'd been able to get a screenshot it would have made a good FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

Apparently Sega have listened to all the various complaints and are going to fix the floaty physics amongst other things. Colour me surprised.

EGA has made the decision to ensure that Sonic 4: Episode I is a game worthy of bearing the weight of its name. To do so, we’ve decided to extend the game’s development – and, for the first time ever, we’ve mixed internal suggestions alongside fan feedback to make some new, positive changes to the game.

Yes, you just read that correctly. You’re not dreaming.

Because of this, the game will now be releasing in the latter half of this year. Of course, we’re not the kind of people to just go and move a date around without something else to fill that void – so the news gets even better from here.

Also, new trailer!

It's actually impressive to see SEGA actively listen to a bunch of people who've - illegally - downloaded the leaked PNet release and played it on their JTag'ed 360 or Dev Kit. :o Makes a refreshing change (especially considering the circumstances).

Hopefully they will design a new level to replace the mine cart disaster.
