hmm, maybe I should give it more time then. I remember you hitting a stage where it wasn't clicking for you like I have.

I suspect well be keeping it anyway as my son seems to like it and is higher level than me. I'm now 19 so perhaps more time is needed

I personally was massively amused by Bioware's decision not to implement a combat log, because the amount of flak they got from the "analyse every build option/min-max" crowd was hilarious.

But for all that it was a smooth launch, this is a potentially great singleplayer RPG ruined by being crowbarred into an MMO - an archetypical example of a game which is less than the sum of it's parts.

It does do some things very very well though. The implementation of companions is particularly worthy of note.

As much as i am enjoying it and definitely won't be cancelling my sub anytime soon, it does have one flaw with it. The fact it's an mmo. I still like the mmo-ness of it and now i've finally got a capable pc i can finally play one which i am enjoying, but a proper kotor 3 would have been a million miles better than this easily. It's pretty obvious that the only reason it's an mmo is for the wonga because EA are jelly of how much WOW makes for activision/blizzard.

The problem isn't that it's an MMO. It's that it's the same stinking, festering slagheap of an MMO that these companies have been peddling for years.

You know why WOW was a success? A combination of polish and careful thinking. It didn't implement anything "because that's how Everquest does it LOL", but it stopped, and thought "what is the best way for our players, that we can implement this thing?"

That's what you where going on about in the chat the other night

It was the first thing in the open access that really got me interested, was the companions and how they work in regards to gathering and crafting quests - really took a huge pain in the ass out of the style that WoW drags along with

Good point, well made. Subscription cancelled.

Also:

“TORtanic” – Star Wars: The Old Republic sinking fast
The relatively new Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game “Star Wars: The Old Republic” is getting bad fast. In fact, the game is screwing up so badly due to a new update that the slowly dying MMO has been dubbed “TORtanic” by many of the players.
So what happened?
From what I can gather, it all began with the mediocre game being updated with a 1.1 patch. The long story short, as perhaps best illustrated by this video, is that the 1.1 broke the game by making it possible for one set of players (those playing for the Empire) to basically massacre an entire other set of players (those playing for the Republic). In fact, the Empire can kill the Republic at spawn points, basically meaning that players on the side of the Republic cannot play the game, and are in effect stuck in a constant loop where they do nothing but die. For some reason, TOR developer Bioware is “investigating” rather than simply “fixing” this issue, despite the fact that the problem is pretty self-evident and game-destroying.

This makes it sound like the game was completely unplayable after the patch. This isn't even nearly close to the truth - all it meant was that one level 50 PVP planet didn't work as intended. You could continue the story as planned, play a Warzone or a number of PVE Flashpoints. Only a very very small aspect of the game didn't work and quite a few other elements of the game were improved. Very shoddy "journalism".

Plus it was patched a day or so later and the issue has been resolved

Again, as mentioned, it's nowhere near as bad as the strawberry float up WoW had

You know nothing of the wow 'fuckup' apparantly.

1. It wasnt at launch period.
2. It was hardly a fuckup, it was funny as gooseberry fool.

Can you imagine the TOR community working together to do anything on the scale of the wow plague? It just wouldnt ever happen. Its a single player game, cleverly wrapped in a pay to play model. And its not even a good example of a single player game, kotor 1 & 2 blow it out of the strawberry floating water.

I'm really not sure what you're getting at, it's almost like you're trying to convince people who enjoy it, that they're not - Which seems a little bit pointless all in all and something not really worth the time posting about

....really?

This is one of the main problems with half the posters on this forum. They don't get what is being said at all, so they pull some faeces out of thin air and pretend that's what the poster just flung at them.

That's not what falsey is saying, and if you read his post carelessly, it still doesn't even come close to how you interpreted it.

All I've seen, and read about this MMO, is that it has fantastic single player elements wrapped up into an MMO. Star Wars world, check. Good narrative and dialogue when it comes to the singleplayer? Check. A great mmo? No. Wow clone. That's something that has been brought up in every review, and everyone that has played WOW, mentions this.

No doubt people are having fun, but don't take someone else's opinion and pretend it was some sort of insult.

I think they do too on current impressions, it just isn't nearly as interesting yet.

As Ive said, Ive been playing Kotor 1 again recently and its still an outstanding game. Doesnt feel like its aged at all, and as I obviously know the twists and turns of the story, I can really appreciate just how good some of the writing is. It makes me sad seeing that this is all there is as a legacy :(

Not only does Kotor 1 stand the test of time, but so does Kotor 2.

Its a great game, but Im not gonna lie, its rough without the restored content. So many story arcs just, 'lol wat end now'.
