Its a great game, but Im not gonna lie, its rough without the restored content. So many story arcs just, 'lol wat end now'.

I've played loads of games with rough edges, and most of them are still top games.

It speaks volumes about Obsidian, when they release a buggy game that's rough all over, and it's STILL on par with Kotor 1. Nobody can even whine about Kotor 2 either, it's been patched AND there's the restored content.

Kotor 1 and 2 are epic, and all I'm hearing about TOR is that it's got great single player content....locked up in an mmo, and even more unfortunate is that it's not even as great as Kotor 1 and 2.

Wow, check out us negative nannies. I mad.

Doesnt feel like its aged at all, and as I obviously know the twists and turns of the story, I can really appreciate just how good some of the writing is. It makes me sad seeing that this is all there is as a legacy :(

I was looking at that earlier.. I think I will start it again.

Make sure you get the widescreen patches etc. Its not the most seamless setup process but it makes a huge difference. Give me a shout if you have any issues, Win 7 obviously isnt the optimum os for it, but there shouldnt be many problems.

ah cool. I had been looking at the creaky old xb version (already have that one) but i'll have a look at the steam one if you can patch it like that.

Being an MMO imposes it's own restrictions on storytelling. For example, you can be fairly sure that your character will never be called up on to make "the ultimate sacrifice", for example.

That's what you where going on about in the chat the other night

It was the first thing in the open access that really got me interested, was the companions and how they work in regards to gathering and crafting quests - really took a huge pain in the ass out of the style that WoW drags along with

Not even just the gathering and crafting. They've got their own drip-fed storylines, and their AI in combat is usually fantastic.

Even having an AI companion opens up a whole heap of potential strategies for the thoughtful player.

it somewhat ruins it when you know that your amazing thing that saves an area actually makes no difference to the gameworld and justs resets for the next person.

completely breaks me out of seeing it as a proper role player, i'm not having any impact on the world or the story so i can't get into the role at all.

Feels like an uncomfortable blend a lot of the time.

I wonder if the pure MMO fan would enjoy it more than the Kotor fan?

In a word, no. The problem really begins when you ask yourself "why is this game charging me a monthly fee?".

Much of the content doesn't require or encourage grouping. Even when it does, most groups are no larger than 4 players in size, and most content seems to be defeatable like this. Because of the way the game instanced, it's rare you'll even see that many players just running around the world. Your primary encounter with most players will involve you impotently shaking a fist as they run in to steal the chest you've just engaged the enemies surrounding it for.

The economy is heavily regulated, and the "Galactic Market" cum auctionhouse doesn't allow you to actually "bid" on items. It's the set price or nothing. So once again, other players are prevented from having any effect on your game. They might as well replace it with a vendor.

And the MMO portions of the game might as well have been Neverwinter Nights style internet play.

Except you can set the "buy out price" and undercut others.
And no one ever really uses Bid Functions in WOW etc

But you get banned for trying to play the market or control item flow. Essentially, if you want to make money reselling your options are so limited that you may as well just be vendoring everything anyway.

Star Wars: Merchant Princes Of The Old Republic.

The fact that I'm even forced to grasp at the auction house as a way and means that another player can make a difference to your game is just emphasising my point that SW:TOR fails as a massively multiplayer game, I think.

I agree that the game just feels empty. Even in hub areas on planets Im running around and its just barren, even on a 'high' population server. It just doesn't feel like an MMO to me, yet places exactly like one. For me an MMO is pretty strawberry floating boring solo, I loved WoW but mostly because my friends played it and we all grouped and quested together and it was fun. In ToR you have to do it all solo because of the story they force upon you, with only a few group heroic quests to do with random people now and then for 10 minutes or something. One of my biggest problems is the story. I mean, for the class storylines its fine, but I get really annoyed by all the pointless cut-scenes trying to hide the grind/same old mmo quests. The ones you find whilst doing your class storyline, they're all generic quests and they seem to think if you put loads of dialogue on the quest giver and a story then it works but it doesn't, just find it really boring and end up skipping it all, just takes longer than clicking on a guy and clicking accept.

Agreed , I'd really just like the man story and a small set of genuinely interesting side quests. Oh and more companions at one time.

Ya'll are crazy, Tor is amaze balls. The only bad thing i have to say, and this was on Hidden Beks. The community isnt a community if you get me? Obviously it'll come in time, but that's my only real Gripe with it.

Sure, I've had a few bugs happen to me, but again. Cleanest MMO launch to date in my eyes.

Also Falsey - ' Was thinking i'd come round and have a gander at TOR ' Falsey secretly wants it. 8-)

So i've finally got my healer companion for my jedi knight and i'm enjoying it tenfold now  I seriously would have gave up on that character if it hadn't been for my higher level mate helping me out. It's ridiculous you have to wait till lvl 34 for him though, when some get theirs at like less than 20. Even more so when the jedi knight is far worse than say the trooper overall. Also will setting my healer to passive just make him heal me constantly? Because i have him on attack atm and he's doing his job, but i'd prefer it if he just constantly healed me instead of attack/heal etc.

Another thing, i've got soooo many heroics now, so much so my mission log got full for the first time. I've got like 4 on tatooine, 4 on nar shaddaa, and another 4/5 on balmorra. I'll no doubt get through them easily when my mate is online at the same time as me, but still. If it's gona throw that many quests at you, don't restrict how many you can have.

I never do HC's if its a 4 man. 2 man, i can solo most of them with my companion, I love my Guardian get into PVP just chuck Guard on someone and jump into the fight, as long as you have a healer stationed to you you'll rack up the points/medals and get a strawberry float tonne of kills.

Okay, I see what you all mean about the Bioware forums. This thread I'm reading about ME3 wants is just post after post of 'I want to be able to romance Joker', 'more adult love scenes', 'able to romance more than one person at a time', 'I want to see what Tali looks like under that suit'.

I'm glad I overcame the urge to pick this up. Those animation bugs are annoying. I had a few in the beta, which I reported and it doesn't look like they have bothered to fix them. Some occasions I needed an admin to reset my character as you can not interact with any NPCs while in that state.
