Just bought Just Cause 1 & 2 for £7 on steam due to these pics.

Doubt I'll be able to pull myself away from TF2, mind.

Just Cause 2 has got to be one of the best looking games out there. It's no Crysis, but it's not far off. Saying that, Dead Space 2 looks lovely, will have to get some screenies tonight.

I think it's close enough to maybe even give it to JC2. I've been playing Crysis on High or Very High and the simple (or maybe not so simple, I'm no expert) use of anti-aliasing on all the trees and bushes goes a long way to making a nicer looking massive open world.

Just a pity the game has no real soul and goes off a cliff once you hit the Library.

I used a helicopter for the harder ones

To borrow a quote from Hugo, you couldnt be more wrong

It's a terribly average game based on an even worse book. It should never have been a FPS for a start and although it had decent ideas it never realised them to any real degree. It also had terrible AI, a borked stealth system and one of the worst-designed enemies in any game ever.

It should have been a classic but instead we got a huge amount of wasted potential. I do hope the mistakes are learnt from when it comes to Metro 2034.

I didn't really get Metro either. It was neither especially good nor especially bad. The very epitome of a one playthrough game in my eyes.

I thought Metro 2033 was ace! Atmospheric, beautiful, eerie and some great action. It was certainly one of the highlights of last year for me.

Anyway Crysis 2 -

Dead Space 2 -

And Doom for the nostalgic

If you couldnt handle the librarians, thats your fault. I never had a problem with them, and as a result i thought the library was brilliant and staring down the librarians is tense as hell and worked every time for me. Never had any problems with 'borked' AI either. As for the stealth, ive stealth'd my way through the nazi level without being seen almost every time. Again, i dont see how its broken.
The game has more atmosphere in any single metro station than most entire games, and better writing and dialogue in its NPC's than most games lead characters.

Better writing? It's awful at times!
The Librarians were awful. AI that made them walk straight into you after staring them down, leaving them with no option but to attack you is just horrid design - especially as they're nothing but bullet sponges. It definitely is not my fault the developer strawberry floated that up.

Yes it had atmosphere in places but the whole experience felt hollow and the story just didn't fit together, nor did it instill any need for me to actually follow it.

There's a reason it didn't set the genre alight. THQ should've just made a brand new STALKER that they could develop for both PC and consoles, now that would've actually been a good game.

It's actually ODST, which was far better than Metro could hope to be in writing, design and gameplay.

And my avatar makes very little difference to how painfully average Metro is. As for your 'atmosphere' argument, there are so many places where you're forced to just shoot everything, leaving very little room for any real atmosphere to soak in.
STALKER has atmosphere way beyond Metro 2033, which is exactly why a new version should have been made over such an average affair based on a strawberry floating awful book.

That's all I have to say on the matter, this thread has been driven off course enough already.

Wow, your arrogance is astounding Brer.

It seems I have to say one more thing to Winckle and yourself in this instance: did you read what I said earlier? I suggested a new STALKER on both PC and consoles. Didn't think I'd have to write that out twice but it seems I do. :fp:

ODST mostly consists of shooting brutes that look like this -

because of that stupid visor at night, while a cheesy jazz tune plays in the background. The rest was just standard Halo action set pieces with the cast of Firefly.
When 4A Games made Metro 2033, they wanted to get away from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games (which they had worked on previously at GSC Game World) and develop a game that could be enjoyed on console and PC. Why have another game exactly like S.T.A.L.K.E.R when you could just play S.T.A.L.K.E.R? Metro 2033 is a fantastic game and an excellent companion piece to the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. Sandly there is no S.T.A.L.K.E.R like games on console, I don't know if that's due to console limitations, but judging from Crysis 2 I suspect it is.

STALKER on consoles you say? I don't think that:

A) Many console gamers would buy a STALKER game

B) You could even manage to port Call of Pripyat to a current gen console.
