The GRcade Adventure Quest- Winner- LewisD!

When I was 14 I hosted a forum role playing game of the same name. In two years I had completed seven quests, all focusing on different areas of history. I have cut and pasted all of the best elements from these 7 stories into this one.

There are a lot of forum games going around, so what makes this one different?

- It is on the quieter Creative Corner board, so hopefully there will be less spam.
- The game plays like an interactive novel.
- The story is fairly serious.

The Story

The year is 1307. Two weeks ago King Phillip of France attacked the Templar houses and headquarters in France. He was looking for something. Six knights manage to escape into the wilderness of Southern France. Taking refuge in a small town, they hear about the kidnapping of an old mans daughter, who threatens to hand them in to the kings guards unless the 6 knights find her.

(I promise there will be unexpected twists along the way to avoid this being a standard adventure story.)

The Aim of the Game

The aim of the game is to be alive at the end of the story, and to have amassed the most treasure. After each battle/main event there will be a list of treasures for you to loot. Some more valuable than others. You simply pick one treasure to take with you. At the end of the game, the living player with the highest value loot will win.

The Dangers

As each relatively short chapter is posted, there will be an event. This can either be in the form of choices (A,B,C,D, which could result in your death.) or a battle, where you simply use your writing skills to describe the horrid things you will do to the enemy with your weapon.

These choices will effect the story as much as possible, and avoiding death will be fairly tough as the options are not obvious.

There will also be the occasional puzzle, failure to correctly work out these puzzles could result in the death of your character.

If all the players die, then the conclusion of the story will be forever lost.

I will try to keep the story interesting, with a mix of real history, humour and unexpected characters/ fights. Whilst the storyline is serious, the events that happen can defy explanation.

To begin this epic quest, I need SIX players. Simply PM me if you are interested, coming up with a name for your character. I reccomend using your forum name, for example, Sir Hulohot.
Also please provide some information about your character to aid with characterisation AND A WEAPON OF CHOICE.

There is a good chance this will fail. I have wanted to do a new story for years now but the forum I used to do them on went under. So I hope there is some interest.

The Heroes of our Tale.

Sir LewisD- Steal his drink and expect a two handed claymore to the skull. This brute of a man is serious about his drink. He has witnessed the worst battles imaginable, and lived to drink another drink. His body is scarred, his trophies. This manly man scares the life out of anyone smaller than himself. He even carries a Battleaxe on his back like it was weightless.

Lord Banjo Trickery is abound with this menacing Templar. Dressed in a Jester's uniform, this disguise helps him strike his enemies when they do not expect it. Equipped with a musical Banjo, he strikes enemies down with the ferocious blade concealed within and his almost supernatural agility means his target always falls. Little is known of this mans past, but his love for the Banjo leads people to suspect he may be of Irish origin.

Sir Sykes. This man escaped from Paris with the others and used his superb geographical skills to lead them all to safety. For many years he had travelled around the land and was very familiar with the French landscape. He is very popular in taverns for his Bard like quality, entertaining the customers with his stories of adventure. Unlike the others, this man won his title in a poker game. He wields a special Katana sword which he purchased from a shady rogue. He has doubts as to it's authenticity.

Razé- They say bad luck follows this Templar. Perhaps he was responsible for the Templar attack on Friday the 13th. He is an expert in stealth, con-artistry and thievery. How this man ever became a Templar god only knows. He was thrown into Gaol (Jail) after his partner Jacques Twofeet betrayed him, handing him to the Nobles. He managed to escape and fled under the cover of darkness to a monastery where he was taken in and trained as a Templar by Abbot Muliant. His thievery skills were noticed and became known as the retrievals expert, specialising in collecting treasures. His weapon of choice is a wrist mounted crossbow.

Sir Roonmastor- An Arab who was a Templar knight in the Holy Land. As a young boy he was part of a Merchant Train that ran between Asia and France. However it was ambushed by bandits. He managed to escape and was taken in by a master Templar and trained in their ways. He retrieved his fathers weapon from the carnage of the Merchant Train years later, A jagged Golden Hilted Scimitar named Orage (Storm). There is a mysterious inscription on the blade left there by his father, but Sir Roonmastor does not know what it says.

Louis Valois (Jango) This nobleman presided over land in northern Paris and was deeply conservative. He is a formidable warrior, fierce and proud to serve his country under the Templar name. His weapon of choice is a special sword that was handed to him by a past king of France as a reward for providing a powerful and sucessful band of slaves during France's last war.

I don't think I want to be hanging out with Banjo Bluegrass. I don't know enough about him to trust him. Or Jango for that matter.

Can't see your image, Lewis

Alas, I was mistaken. Sir Hulohot doth make thy image in the opening post, a Warhammer figure was you.

I am not going to be able to keep that up any longer.

Greetings, all ye players. Just a fair few warnings before you enter medieval France.

* At times this could be fairly text heavy, once the story gets rolling. If you do not like reading then this might not be your cup of tea.

* If you want out for any reason just say so, I wont be offended in any way and I can kill off your character. :)

Chapter 1

A harrowing scream. Men scrambling over each other trying to get their weapons. Guards pouring in the doors, slaying everyone who tried to put up a fight. Sickening brutality.

Sir Sykes cowered in the corner by the bed as his fellow knights tried their best to hold the guards at bay. The attack had been swift and many men had not even had the chance to arm themselves.
He watched in horror as a blade was driven through his friends forehead, his body collapsing onto the wooden floor spilling blood like water.
As men were slain in the doorway Sir Sykes knew this would be the last thing he ever saw.

Lord LuisD, Lord Roonmastor, Sir Sykes, Lord Banjo and Razé were holed up in the chapel. The great heavy doors working wonders at keeping the guards outside. The hulking LewisD laughed as they thrust themselves at the door on the other side.
“Piss off, losers!” He cackled.

Lord Roonmastor began to panic. “Did they take everything from here?!”
Razé knew exactly what he was talking about. One of the Templars great treasures that he himself had helped to recover.
Lord Banjo ran to the altar and opened the secret door. He panicked.
“Christ no! They forgot about this.” He rummaged through the secret compartment, and realised the gravity of the situation. “How the hell did they forget about this!”
LewisD was left alone to hold the doors whilst the others ran to the altar.
“We need to escape from here alive. We cannot let these treasures fall into the hands of the king.”

The door began to splinter.
“I cannot hold them much longer, filthy blighters!” LewisD growled.
Razé gave the orders. “Take as much as you can. I guess the only way out is through the stained glass windows. We need to hurry before they surround us." He grabbed the golden box and handed it to Lord Banjo who stashed it in his Jesters bag.

You can only carry one item each. Each player choose which one treasure you wish to take with you. Each treasure has different value, but you do not know the value. Some treasures have effects later on in the story
Choose wisely

A large bag of coins
A worn down silver medallion
A small mysterious box
A golden dagger
A wooden crucifix with words etched into the stem
A golden chain
A folded piece of parchment
A sealed letter
A small golden Egyptian statue
Half a key
A jewellery box

I shall take the Golden Dagger. It's quite befitting of my character.

I'll take the mystery box please, assuming I've finished cowering in the corner.

 Yeah plot hole right there. I'm not exactly trying to be hugely realistic, as you will soon see.

Egyptian statue please.

What happened to Jango? I take it you were trying to kill him off and Sykes was with us?
