Your PC would run it looking way, way nicer than on 360. To expect a two year old PC to run a next, next-gen (according to some people) game on absolute max is ridiculous

I don't expect it to, I had it June 2009. I'll be able to play the game but to play it on max I would now need an upgrade two years on.

For a small number of bells and whistles I wouldn't bother.

The ability to make people jelly by showing them things in games that they have on console but will never be able to see.

Ironically, even on less than max, you're still getting a graphical experience that is beyond what either console could supply.

And Rik, you've no-one to blame for that 4870X2 but yourself.

I really dislike when people do this. I saw it on the last page and I usually read every post. Yes, I even read yours. Was it really necessary to quote your own post? If people want to reply or laugh at it, they can.

I already said the min PC spec is above what 360 can do as 360 only does DX9.

As for my GPU, I'm pretty sure I got my PC before DX11 cards were available, I think it was 5*** series that introduced DX11. To be fair it has coped with everything I've thrown at it so far.

MAG 265 players is not handled in the same way a PC title would do 64. High end GPU's serve more purpose than just being pretty in stills. Its all about how smooth you can play it at those settings.

Now I can play Crysis maxxed, full HD, at 60fps no sweat. Thats a bit more than 'prettier visuals on some titles'.

But the multi-format games are the same, aren't they? That's why I'm asking and to be fair we could level 'support your own views' at anyone. I'm asking some questions to find out for myself why PC's are deemed to be so much more superior when I can't see it.

I play a well developed game on console. I play the same game on PC. Visuals aside, what am I going to get over and above that I should be concerned about?

You know what's great about PC games and their loads of graphics options, aside from the nicer visuals? Control and customisation. A taxing console game forces the developer to make a choice for you about whether you're going to get a game that looks better, runs at higher res, has bigger textures, etc. etc. or one that runs at a stable frame rate at the expense of a little razzle dazzle. On PC you get to choose that. If you don't mind playing at an average 30 frames a second, bump those settings up. Want to be a speed obsessed quake tourney junkie still playing on a CRT? Drop all those settings down to lowest and watch those frames per second hit triple figures. It's all entirely up to the user at that point.

If I was to buy a system now I'd get a gaming PC. But I didn't, I bought my 360 years ago when it was a better value proposition.

I'm going to wait and see what the new consoles are like before I decide where to spend my money for next-gen games. Exclusives will probably be the deciding factor to be honest, as always.

I'd qualify that by adding that the initial outlay will of course be much higher than buying into any of the consoles, but besides the lower cost of new games (and the frankly ridiculously low cost of buying older games of which there is now a huge back catalogue for PC), you also do get to benefit from the best that gaming technology can offer on PC - the latest graphical whizzbangery, the map editors, the free DLC and via Steam automatic patching, etc.

I dunno. PC is just a much better value proposition. You have to speculate to accumulate. I spend less now on more games than I ever did when 360 was my preferred platform. It works for me.

For what you paid for that twin card, you could have covered a decent single card AND it's replacement, though.

That said though, the card should still be able more than hold it's own for a while longer.

Have you worked out how much you've saved by buying PC games and seen if or when its likely to cover your extra initial cost of buying a PC? It can be a false comparison too if its changed the games you are buying.

Its worth pointing out that you can save just as much (if not more) on consoles by waiting a month or two and not buying any new releases.
