If The Wire's a 10, this would be a 9.8.

They're very different shows. though.

I like The Wire but prefer The Shield. It's so much more fast-paced and eventful - without being at the expense of the characters/story.

I've always wanted to get into The Shield but for some reason I've been put off because there's seven seasons to catch up on and knowing me I would take forever getting through it. Hell, I'm still on season four of The Wire.

Despite having Glenn Close in a starring role, I think season four was the worst. I'm looking forward to five, which I've refused to buy until it came down in a price (now very cheap on hmv.co.uk).

Four was the worst in my opinion (but Antony Anderson was good). Five is ace though - not just for Forest Whittaker either!

I also prefer The Shield to The Wire, but both shows are pretty much perfect.

This is a good comparison:
why is The Shield different from The Wire? I mentioned earlier that I thought the two shows were equal but for different reasons, and Ryan was able to articulate it far better than I ever could have: "There's a heightened aspect to it, and there's the difference I think ... The Wire strives to be utterly sort of journalistic but I've always come from a place, as a TV fan, from looking for that cool, entertaining thing."

His point? Ryan wasn't saying The Wire isn't entertaining, but rather that it's completely believable, whereas The Shield, while it has moments that are borderline plausible, they're much closer to "entertainment TV" than to the "utter journalism" seen on The Wire. It's a really accurate distinction.

 One of the best episode of any tv show I can remember seeing ever.
It was just incredible from beginning to end.

The scene where Vic confesses everything was superb. The acting from all the cast was top-notch. Olivia learning who Vic really was and her dawning realisation that she had just let him get away with multiple murders was one of my favourite moments of that episode.

Claudette's breakdown was quite funny but you did feel sorry for her. Regarding Dutch, I doubt she would really fire him, she was just angry.

I can't see how next week's finale can possibly top that. It has to tie up all the plotlines in less than 2 hours. I'm convinced Ronnie will kill Vic. He seemed close to the edge earlier on, but the news he's been knifed in the back will push him over. I can't wait for next week.

It's an excellent show.

I'm hoping for a Dutch spin-off.

Looking highly unlikely if Dutch's current plotline ends where I think it will.

Lest any of you forget the extra-long finale episode is being shown in America early tomorrow morning. Coincedentally tomorrow is the day Bruce Wayne stops being Batman as well. Continue to use spoiler boxes for the forseeable future though. Anyone who ruins the ending for anyone else deserves a permanent IP ban.

Near the beginning of the season I could see Cassidy killing Vic. Less so now.

I just watched it.
Lots of really sad moments in this finale. I felt really sorry for Shane especially when Vic threatened to visit his kid while he was in jail.

I also felt sad for Ronnie when Shane died and he thought he was now free, not realising that Vic had already confessed. Had Vic not done so then they would both have got away with everything.

Vic ending up behind a desk for three years does seem like torture for Vic, but compared to the alternative of life in prison it's not that harsh a punishment really. His family going into witness protection is the real punishment.

I like what they did with the 'Andre 3000' guy. Last time we saw him he was squirting prostitutes outside his shop with a hose and now he's running for mayor. Was it actually Aceveda that shot him? I didn't quite understand that bit, i'll have to watch it again.

Dutch and the serial killer kid (that sounds like a show right there  ) was played out in a more realistic way than many were expecting. I'm glad they didn't have the kid kill Dutch as that would have been a little far-fetched especially on the same day as everything else happening.

Loved the end credits.

Great end to a great show.
